Strudel Caboodle's Story
Strudel Caboodle is a really amazing American/Australian Shepherd. She weighs in at just 14 KG / 31 pounds. She joined Mattie's Place, via a Canadians shelter, that had a going out of business breeder surrender her dogs. Strudel Caboodle is the 6th dog from this breeder and we have 5 more incoming and then she's completely dog-less and closed for good.

The breeder stated she was 9 years old, so she has a given DOB: Dec 14, 2016.

Strudel Caboodle has some anxiety with the world around her as she's lived her life in a barn, but she is more of a flight than fight anxious dog and when she knows she's safe with you, she's a gem. Typical to the breed, she is shy meeting new people and that will likely remain. She also does much better with women and though lives with a male and does fine, she is more hesitant with him and can also at times try to herd him out of the room he enters when Strudel Caboodle is in it (teeth on, no skin break or bites, just gentle herding nips)

She managed her vet appointment where she had her spay and all her vetting brought up to date, with ease and was a good patient. Though anxious, she handled it with grace.

Strudel Caboodle will require a dental post-adoption with multiple teeth extracted. This will happen at the cost of Mattie's Place at my veterinarian. My vet squeezed her in for her spay appointment as she had gone into the heat the night before, so she didn't have time for a large dental that Strudel Caboodle required so it will be done at the adopters convenience post adoption.

Strudel Caboodle will need an adopter that understands the patience required for a nervous dog that has been denied a lot of life skills.

Strudel Caboodle crates beautifully, does amazing in a car, is good with other dogs and walks well on leash. She does have a lot of amazing qualities and just needs to continue building on them.

Though Strudel Caboodle isn't showing much herding traits now (see above for the minor glimpses of it) and is generally low key in energy, her DNA suggests those personality traits are waiting to show themselves once she settles into life, so small children and cats will likely not be the best fit for her to live with. She'll also need an active adopter as these breeds tend to be higher energy. Can she live in a condo? Absolutely. But she'll want to adventure alongside you and not be left alone to be a couch potato, so you will have to provide sufficient exercise and mental stimulation to keep her happy and healthy.

And if you want to take up a new hobby with your canine friend, I bet she would excel in canine events; obedience, agility, dock diving and tracking.

Strudel Caboodle will need daily grooming to keep her coat stunning and very likely a couple good professional grooms throughout the year, so be sure you have that budgeted into your pet ownership plan.

Strudel Caboodle is deserving of the best home. She's 100% good dog through and through and just needs a home full of love and guidance to help her grow into the spectacular dog we know she is, just waiting below the surface.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Strudel Caboodle is a sweet, well-mannered girl. While some things around the house make her a little nervous still, she is adjusting well to her new life in a home. She learns very quickly and is incredibly smart.

She loves to be pet and cuddled. If she wants your attention, she will sit in front of you and nose her way into your hands to get some love. She is happiest when she is nearby her people. When she's not beside us, she likes to still be in the same room. She will try to leave the house when we do so caution should be exercised when people are leaving through the front door. She has whined a little bit when her main person isn't there but she quickly settles and waits for their return.

She loves her cozy bed and often enjoys her puzzle toys, usually not giving up until she gets all the goodies inside. She will use her crate throughout the day but, she prefers to sleep in her bed beside ours overnight. Strudel walks well on her leash, she does not pull and she stays beside her walker. While she has built confidence in the backyard, some outside sounds still startle her and she feels safest beside her people.

She is starting to find her voice and lets out some excited barks when people come to the door, letting us know someone is there. Strudel enjoys being outside, watching and smelling the world around her.

Strudel has a good appetite for her dry food and loves her liver treats. She will work hard to earn them.

Although initially she had the odd accident inside, with some practice she has learned to use the bathroom outside and will often let us know when she needs to go by "leading us" to the door.

Strudel is an amazing, gentle dog full of love.
------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
