Stewie's Story
Stewie Is Still Waiting For Her Person

For 7 months, this tiny girl has been learning that the world is not as scary as she once believed. Every little bit of progress she makes feels huge for a dog like her.

Stewie is a 2 year old, 20 pound dachshund mix with the gentlest soul. She is incredibly shy and will need a very patient adopter who understands that trust for her is earned slowly, quietly, and on her terms.

At home, Stewie prefers the comfort of a cozy bed in a quiet room where she feels safe. She is still very timid indoors and does not want to be handled unless she is on leash. But outside, something changes.

She LOVES walks.

The second Stewie gets outside, her personality starts to shine. She enjoys exploring, sniffing everything around her, and sitting beside her person on a park bench. While on leash, she allows pets and closeness, and you can see how badly she wants to trust.

Stewie is not the kind of dog who will instantly run into your arms. She is the kind of dog who needs someone willing to celebrate the tiny victories:
The first time she chooses to sit near you
The first tail wag
The first moment she relaxes enough to fall asleep nearby
The first time she realizes she is finally safe

Those moments mean everything with dogs like Stewie.
She is spayed, vaccinated, good with other dogs, and would likely do best in a calm home with another confident dog to help show her the ropes. She needs a quiet environment, predictable routines, and humans who understand that healing from fear can take months, sometimes longer.

We know her perfect person is out there. Someone who is not looking for a perfect dog, but who wants to give a deserving one the chance she has never truly had.

Stewie does not need someone to fix her. She just needs someone willing to love her exactly where she is.

Fill out a pre adoption application for Stewie here:
https://www.yavapaihumanetrappers.org/preadoption-application
