Stevie's Story

Stevie
Male, neutered
DOB: 6/17/21
Breed: Poodle/doodle mix
Weight: 31 lbs.

Stevie isn't a regular poodle... he's a cool poodle.
At just 5 years old, this adorable poodle mix has already overcome more than most dogs ever should. After being surrendered to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, Stevie arrived with a blind left eye, early cataracts in his right eye, a double ear infection, and a coat so severely matted that he had to be completely shaved down.
But if you ask Stevie? None of that matters. His favorite things in life are people, cuddles, making new friends, and soaking up every bit of love he can find. He truly is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet and greets every person he meets with a wagging tail and an open heart.
Stevie will need a little patience while he learns a new home. He may occasionally bump into furniture... walls... or even you. Slow introductions to new people, dogs, and environments help him build confidence, and once he knows where everything is, he's ready to explore. Because of his vision impairment, he can be a little more cautious as he navigates the world. Since he can't always see what's around him, he may feel uncertain or threatened, particularly around larger or more assertive male dogs. He would likely thrive in a home where he's the only dog, or with calm, small female dogs who are respectful of his space and tend to keep to themselves. The right environment will help him feel safe, confident, and able to relax.
He is also making progress with his separation anxiety. We're working with him every day to help him build confidence and become more comfortable when left alone. With continued patience, consistency, and a predictable routine, he's expected to keep making positive strides.
His foster family can't stop bragging about what a good boy he is:
*Not a single accident since coming into foster care!
*Sleeps peacefully in his own room all night and patiently waits for his people to wake him up each morning.
*Car rides make him a little nervous at first, but after a few minutes he settles down and rides quietly.

Stevie has every reason to be discouraged, but instead he chooses joy. He doesn't care that his haircut is growing back, that one eye can't see, or that the world looks a little different than it used to. He just wants someone to love him forever. If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a heart bigger than life itself, Stevie is waiting to meet you.
If you think Stevie could be the perfect fit for your family and you're already pre-approved, please send us a private message on our Facebook page.
