Steve's Story

Steve was born in January 2025 . The last of the Stranger Things puppies, is Steve. Steve is a medium sized male, but he is growing like a leaf.
He was surrendered to us around six months of age with his siblings. (Born January 2025). Just like his siblings, he was emaciated and had ongoing diarrhea. They all were administered deworming medication and had stools sent off, which were negative for parasites.

The earlier months that they arrive to the rescue, they were prescribed dog food by our veterinarian due to the amount of diarrhea they had. They have successfully been transitioned to Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy food and has been tolerating that well. Any transition out of their dog food does result in diarrhea again.

Steve also had two small areas that tested positive on a skin scrape for the demodex mite. His left rear outer paw and hip. They were treated with Bravecto which is adequate for such a small area. However, due to their immune systems not being strong due to malnourishment, to prevent re-infestation, they will need to be on prescribed, oral flea and tick medication that treats the demodex mite for total of one year. The medication for that is vet prescribed.

This is not contagious unless around another animal with a weakened immune system.

Steve is an adventurous puppy, but his curiosity can sometimes get him into trouble. He likes to find any objects that he can chew on to amuse himself. So keeping things up and out of reach will be important.

If you were interested in adopting Steve, please go to our website at
www.secondchancemushersrescue.com to see our adoption requirements as well as fill out an online application.
