Steve's Story

🐶 Basics
● Dog’s Name: Steve
● Age / Size: 15lbs, 2-5 yrs old
● Rescued in Texas

💙 Foster Note

He snorts when he walks! Steve just wants to sit on your lap whenever possible. Just fit right in with the rest of my pack and the office!
Noise: unbothered by honking cars, other dogs, cats, squirrels, crowds, vacuum — none of it really fazed him. Did get scared around screaming children and people.
Leash - walks great on leash, too, which honestly just makes everything easier. He's not food-motivated either, so walks are calm and focused, but he's eager to please and picks things up quickly.
Barking - he doesn’t bark. Doorbells, knocks, street noise — nothing. Apartment, house, busy street — Steve just rolls with it, he'll fit in anywhere!
New environment - he settled into a new home faster than I’d expected. Learns his routine quickly, figures out his space, and just... fits. No drama, no chaos — just a sweet, easygoing dog. Took a couple of tries to figure out that elevators, stairs, and hallways without a rug were not scary, but now he is a pro. No issues. No issues with cats, doesn’t chase, and doesn’t care. Good with other dogs during walks - no leash aggression. Not nosy or eager with other dogs.
Aggressive behavior - none. Bathed him on day 1 - didn’t like the water, but zero aggression. No issues with touch - toes, paws, body, etc. No guarding issues with toys or food. Takes treats gently.
Steve would probably do best with older kids and a relatively calm household. A few excited kids wanted to chase him, and he was scared. He loves to be cozy and warm and just wants to be on my lap.
Took him to the office and he did really well as if he was always there. Greeted everyone, no accidents, and sitting on people’s laps.
Steve has been a dream so far, and it's only been 3 days!

💛 Personality Snapshot
● Describe in 3–5 words: super friendly, walks well on leash, house trained + well behaved
● Energy level (Low / Moderate / High): low/moderate
● More people‑oriented or independent? People oriented
● How do they handle new situations? Steve is relatively chill — honking cars, rowdy dogs, sneaky cats, bushy-tailed squirrels, and bustling crowds - v little reaction. Excited at the chance to collect pets from strangers. He also walks like a total pro on leash and completely housetrained as long as there are regular walks.

🐕 Social & Home Life
● How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)? Great with adults and new people, but scared of screaming kids.
● How are they with other dogs? Great - doesn’t bother him either way.
● Cats or other animals (if known)? No bother!
● Behavior when left alone or when guests visit: Totally fine - no bother, happy to take naps and chill on his own. Very independent.

🎓 Training & Manners
● Potty trained? Probably
● Crate trained? N/A
● Leash skills: Great! Walks alongside.
● Commands known (if any): N/A

🌞 Daily Life
● Typical day with you: A 7 am walk and breakfast to kick things off, then it's off to the office for the day with potty walks sprinkled in. He wraps up the evening with dinner, some hangout time, and a final 10 pm potty walk before bed.
● Exercise needs: A few long and/or shorter walks throughout the day.
● Favorite activities or toys: cuddles and sitting on your lap!

🌱 Growth Areas
● Anything they’re still working on? I believe Steve is potty trained, but no accidents so far with regular walks. morning , mid day, evening and final walk before bed. No accidents in the office. He does get a bit scared with v loud noises but that's normal
● What helps them succeed? Regular walks to make sure Steve can potty regularly and reassurance when he does get a bit unsure.

🏡 Ideal Home
● Only dog / With dog / Either: Either
● Good fit for apartment living? Yes
● Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): moderate or calm
● What kind of adopter would be the best match? Someone who loves walks and cuddles. Steve is so easy to please!

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Steve, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
