STELLALUNA THE FRUIT BAT's Story

Contact my foster at meghanmlucas@gmail.com Stellaluna the Fruit Bat arrived at the shelter in December and needed time to learn to trust the world. Thanks to love, patience, and experienced professional trainers, she has made great progress with overcoming her fears and is ready for her forever home. Please read her full biography and reach out to the foster if you’re interested! Fruit Bat’s musts: She needs at least one dog sibling, preferably a whole pack! She thrived at training camp living in a large respectful pack ranging from 5-20 dogs and having dogs at home is important for maintaining her confidence. Confident, shepherd-experienced owner. Her owner must provide Fruit Bat with the structure and guidance she needs to navigate in the world. She is much happier when she can trust her person to keep her safe. Fruit Bat’s preferences: Land to run on. After spending the first 6 years of her life in a backyard she LOVES the freedom of running in safe/private open space and is very responsive to verbal recall. Access to some body of water. Although foster mom doesn’t yet have a farm and private pond for Fruit Bat, they enjoy splashing around in creeks for training breaks. Fruit Bat’s no-can-dos and ongoing challenges: No young kids No cats - she is good with small dogs though! She will need continuous practice with Leash and barrier reactivity. She has made a LOT of progress and is nowhere as scary as she used to be, but the Bottom line - Fruit Bat is a very smart dog. With the right environment and owner, she will thrive and bring so much happiness to her household. But in the wrong environment, she may regress back into her fear reactivity to people and dogs.
