Stella of Wortham's Story

Stella did know love once; sadly, her owner passed away and their family did not want to her so she ended up at the shelter in the small, rural town of Wortham, Texas.

Unfortunately Stella, and all the animals at the Wortham shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them.

Stella was initially shy at the shelter, but has blossomed into an active, puppy-like dog! She actually plays with toys and has a happy personality! She loves to run in the yard at the shelter when it's her time for freedom, and she bounces when she runs

Potty trained: Unknown (likely yes)

Crate trained: Unknown

Leash trained: Yes!

Stella is patiently, but anxiously, waiting for her turn to get the call up from an adopter or committed foster so she can board the transport, put Wortham, Texas, in the rearview mirror, and head North to her new life in the sun and mountains of Colorado! The next transport arrives Friday, March 6th and we'd love to put Stella on it!

Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.

Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.
