Starling and Silver's Story

Meet Silver & Starling – A Bonded Husky Duo Looking for Their Second Chance

Silver and Starling are two stunning huskies who came into our care on 4/16, and they’re ready to find a loving forever home—together. Likely a mother-daughter duo (though not confirmed), these two are incredibly bonded—cuddling up to one another and gently grooming each other in their cramped shelter kennel. Their connection brings them comfort, calm, and a sense of safety in an overwhelming environment.

These beautiful girls spent much of their lives as outdoor yard dogs, so the transition to indoor life and human affection is still a work in progress. But every day, they’re learning, growing, and revealing more of their sweet personalities.

What Makes Them Special:
Silver – With her striking blue eyes and calm confidence, Silver is the older and more self-assured of the two. She explores new places with curiosity and helps lead the way for her shyer companion. Her gentle leadership and affectionate nature make her truly special.
Starling – Starling has soulful brown eyes and a tender heart. She can be shy at first and tends to take cues from Silver when navigating new experiences. With patience and a steady hand, she opens up and becomes incredibly affectionate and loyal.

What They’re Looking For:
• A calm, supportive home where they can continue to grow and build trust at their own pace
• A secure yard where they can safely enjoy the outdoors while adjusting to family life
• A family committed to keeping them together and offering the stability they’ve never had

These girls are gentle, loving, and full of potential—and they truly need each other. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
