Star's Story

STAR AND HIS BEST BUDDIES WILL BE AT A VALENTINES EVE MEET AND GREET ADOPTION EVENT AT BAD WEATHER BREWING IN ST. PAUL FRIDAY, FEB 13, 5:00 -7:00. COME AND CUDDLE. YOU JUST MIGHT FALL IN LOVE.

Star is a fuzzy tan/black/white pup who was born in a PUP foster home on Solstice day, December 21. This little boy has never had a bad day in his life. He was one of only 4 pups born to a 45# husky/shepherd X mommy.

Mommy was an abandoned dog in a remote rural area. Concerned citizens asked if we could take her into rescue. A metro area rescue agreed to take her, however, when the PUP volunteer went to pick her up, he believed she was pregnant. The other rescue had no capacity to take in a pregnant, so she stayed with PUP to have her puppies. She had them 2 weeks later. Mommy (pictured) is a beautiful girl who is friendly and outgoing. If puppies have half her sweet personality, they are winners.

We had DNA testing done on one pup from the litter. They are quite the mix, a total of 21 breeds: in double digits are German Shepherd 21%, Siberian Husky 14%, and Alaskan Malamute 13%. The other 52% are in single digits: Samoyed, Shar-pei, Akita, Chow, Border Collie, Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, Collie, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Bulldog, Bull Mastiff, Stafordshire Terrier, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Saint Bernard, Catahoula Leopard dog and Chihuahua. We call it hybrid vigor. There is no possibility of inbreeding here!! We think puppy will be large breed when full grown but his adopter should be prepared to love him if he is smaller than predicted.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered by 6 months.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Puppies may be seen and selected now but may not go to their new home until February 13.

Video link
https://youtube.com/shorts/d-zWc9bEU-s
