Stanley's Story

Feeling a little down and what someone to cheer you up? Stanley is your man. Meet this 4.5 year old, Boston Merle Great Dane. You will not meet a dog more eager to see your face and be close to you than this man. His world literally consists of loving his humans with every capacity he has. We'd call him your shadow, but he's more like a shopping cart right in front of you always. He can be timid about new men initially in the home, but does warm up very quickly if they just ignore him. He knows sit, down, stay, come, and go into your house (kennel). He is an excellent eater and looks forward to every meal. Stanley loves other dogs, but unfortunately was not taught at a young age how to appropriately approach new friends which can at times overwhelm other dogs. He is very vocal and loves to talk to both his canine and human friends. He has lived with birds, dogs of all sizes and cats. He does want us to make sure you know that he will occasionally chase the cat. but he PROMISES he will not try to hurt her. If you have flighty cats in your home he probably would not be the best choice. The cat in his foster home puts him right in his place when he's inappropriate which he is positively responsive to. Stanley is a very tall and strong boy. He is learning to walk with a gentle leader and absolutely loves going on walks with his people. He came into rescue using a prong collar and walked well on that so we are confident he will get the hang of a halter style lead quickly! He requests lots of toys and bones in his new home but would sheepishly like me to warn you he does like to destroy his stuffies. He can at times resource guard these items from his foster canine siblings but is very easily redirected with voice commands. This beautiful boy had to leave his only family for medical reasons but thankfully is so very eager to meet his next one. Big Dogs Huge Paws, inc's Adoption Policy
Many of the gentle giants that come into our rescue have been neglected or abused. Others have simply been abandoned by their owners due to a divorce, a new baby, moving, or natural disaster. We are often told that they got “too big” or “too expensive” and many of the dogs below come to us with very little training. Despite their past, rescue dogs are incredibly forgiving and very eager to please. They have so much to give and are all very special. We are looking for forever homes and permanent families who will love their new addition unconditionally and give them the love and support they need and deserve for the rest of their lives. Adoption Requirements and Guidelines a. Applicants must have never been convicted of any animal abuse laws. b. All potential adopters must completely fill out and sign the adoption application and the information must be verified and approved by a BDHPI representative. c. All appli
