Squish's Story

All it takes is one look to understand why he was named Squish! He is true to his Shar-pei roots with his wrinkly face. He is so wrinkly that he is unfortunately dealing with entropion eye (eyelid rolls inward). He may need a small surgery to correct it, or he may grow out of it, so his new owner will need to look out for irritation and apply ointment so he is comfortable. He is worth it!

Squish is lower energy than his sister (Raisin) and prefers to be lying down and sleeping when inside. But don't be fooled - he saves up his energy for potty breaks, so when he is outside with his sister and our adult dog, he is ready to play! He is more shy and timid than his sister, but once he warms up to you, be prepared for lots of nap time snuggles. He isn't going to be your adventure buddy, as being so wrinkly takes a lot of energy, but he will be your calm and loving companion. He has been sleeping well in a crate with his sister. He will need consistent potty breaks of 2-3 hours (he is still a puppy), but he knows not to potty inside if he can help it. He has been training alongside his sister and is learning what a leash is. He is food motivated when he feels safe, but in new environments, he may need to get comfortable first. Expect an adjustment period before he shows his true, adorable, sleepy, goofy personality. He would do best is a household with gentle kids who understand he is a very sleepy boy. Even though he is still a puppy and may perk up as he ages, right now it seems he is more of a home companion than a big-adventure pup. Which makes him a great calm presence if you do want to take him out around town (just maybe not a hiking buddy).
