𝙐𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙉𝙀𝙀𝘿! <br/>Unfortunately Bear's adoption fell through when the shelter vet reported that he tried to bite the assistant holding him when they were muzzling him in preparation for his neuter procedure. Since he was also defensive on intake* they didn't proceed with the procedure. <br/><br/>𝘽𝙀𝘼𝙍 𝙄𝙎 𝙉𝙊𝙒 𝘼𝙉 📛 𝙐𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙉𝙀𝙀𝘿! I'm looking for a foster or home that can help with him. Working breed experience only. This boy needs a place to settle and learn to trust. See description notes below. NO kids or cats, since we don't have any history on him. He's been friendly with people in general - friendly and wagging before they tried to muzzle him - and we believe he'd be okay with another dog, preferably female. <br/><br/>*On intake he'd growled and lunged at the person giving him his intake vaccines, but it was unclear if this was resource guarding (had just been given a bowl of food - which he'd eaten) or just a fear/defense behavior after having spent most of the last month in the woods by himself until he was trapped. "He kept mouthing at the loop on the catch pole in what seemed like a playful and confused manner because he was bouncy, panting, and dancing around. He did not growl or lunge after the 1 time.” <br/><br/>𝙐𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙉𝙀𝙀𝘿! This guy was found running loose in an area of Thurston County known for dog dumping (dogs being dumped there by their owners). He was very wary and wouldn't come near anyone and needed to be live-trapped. The legendary DD Ponder (total ROCK STAR!) got him into a live trap, thankfully, before he was hit by a car or killed. Once trapped Bear turned out to be a friendly guy - happy for a meal and not fearful – just happy and wagging in the trap. <br/><br/>When the owner was contacted (via microchip info) and hung up on the finder and the shelter, and no one responded after multiple tries – text, voicemail, email messages sent with no reply – he was taken to the shelter, who also tried to reach the owner without success. His stray hold is up and he needs a place soon (𝐍𝐎𝐖). The shelter is very full and they need help with getting the dogs out as the alternative – euthanizing for space – isn’t what anyone wants to do. <br/><br/>So far Bear seems to be friendly and confident/calm, but is also showing he has boundaries – possible resource guarding with food, and if he’s not comfortable with you, he doesn’t like a lot of handling (will growl and lunge). This isn’t uncommon with our Rottweilers when they’re first in a new situation. They are very guarded and need to be handled with respect for boundaries and taking the time to let the dog decompress and begin to trust makes a big difference in just a few days. He needs someone who understands the behavior and won't be intimidated OR try to "correct" this behavior with force. Rottweiler/working breed experience is a must with him. <br/><br/>Bear is 2 years old (will be 3 in April) and is not yet neutered. He seems to be okay with other dogs, but we haven’t had a full dog test. Looking for a foster or adopter for him 𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐏.
