Sparkle's Story

Why choose me?
Sparkle, 7 years old (though VERY spunky), weighing only 26 lbs, is very dear to me. She's a previous foster of mine who was adopted by an elderly woman and returned 3 months later because the woman just cannot care for a dog at this point in her life (she was even paying people every day to come walk Sparkle). The woman sobbed while giving her back, because she adores Sparkle and said "she's perfect." And she pretty much is.
Sparkle...
- rides great in a car
- friendly with other dogs
- great with people
- lap dog / very cuddly
- house trained
- crate trained
- easy around the house / chill
- LOVES walks
- short squatty size (26 lbs)
- doesn't get into things / isn't a chewer
- isn't the type to want to run away. she can be off-leash on your driveway when you're unloading the car and she won't run off
- knows sit, goes in a crate for treats
I think she'd be the EASIEST addition to almost any home, especially if she's your only dog. She is dog friendly and right now is living in a pack with 3 other dogs at my house, but she WANTS to be your one and only. She hasn't shown any aggression, but she shows jealously through the roof. If you're petting another dog, she butts in there for sure, haha

Foster update: I haven't been fostering Sprinkle for very long, but I must say I'm VERY impressed. I actually met her at the Rock Lobster's "Pucks & Paws" event and immediately knew she'd be my next foster. She was so well behaved and quiet at the event, even with all the people and animals walking around.
She's 7 years old and approximately 20-25 lbs (she's short but thick!).
Driving her home from the shelter, she was a perfect angel in the car.
I will say - she came on pretty strong with two of my dogs (one is 80 lbs and one is 10 lbs). I think it's "small dog syndrome", but I'd classify her as a "dominant" personality. But within just 10 minutes, they were all doing GREAT together. Even taking treats nicely while all next to each other. Zero issues. So I'd definitely call her dog friendly.
Sprinkle knows "sit" and walks great on a leash. She has passed several dogs on our walks, and has completely ignored them.
She's a cute stout little size, and she loves leaning up against you for pets.
I'm sure I'll continue learning more about her, but as of right now, I haven't found a flaw. She's fast asleep in a crate as I write this (she goes right in).
Dogs her age don't always fly off the shelves, but I really hope someone chooses to give her the loving home she deserves.

Sprinkle is seven years old but acts like a pup when she's dancing on her hind legs for treats. She knows how to sit for them, but I imagine dancing is more fun. She still has a lot of spring in her step and liked running for treats when I tossed them for her. She wasn't interested in toys, so we made a game of chasing treats. Sprinkle doesn't take her treats gently, so when I wasn't tossing them, I used an open hand to give them to her. I don't know Sprinkle's breed mix, but she's a cutie with a long body like a dachshund and adorable ears like a terrier. She's friendly, sweet, and ready for a new family to love.

You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA.
