PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION INSTEAD*
**CLICK SHOW MORE AND READ ALL WAY TO END"

*FEMALE GOLDENDOODLE PUPPY FOR ADOPTION **
Meet Precious Sophie-VA, a sweet 8-month-old female Mini-Goldendoodle puppy, who is in a foster home in Reston, Virginia.

*Please read ALL the information in Sophie's listing before applying to ensure you understand what she needs to be successful in her new home.
*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).
*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Sophie, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org. *You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list. *You can check the status of her adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.
*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt her before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 8 months old (born September 2025)

*WEIGHT: 22 lbs & still growing. We estimate that she will weigh in the 30-40 lb. range as an adult although we cannot guarantee her adult weight.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence & yard are required. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed as we do not think she would be successful with those. She will need continued work on recall but does well under supervision.

*COAT TYPE: Very soft low-shedding wavy hair. We don't know what her adult coat will be like; it may shed some. She will need to be groomed regularly & brushed routinely to avoid matting. Her new family should be prepared to have her groomed every 6-8 weeks or so with an approximate cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Full of playful puppy energy. She would do best with at least 2 to 3 good walks a day & lots of running around. She will need her puppy energy expended through physical & mental exercise. She likes to steal things off of counters & floors so extra caution needs to be taken to ensure the home is puppy proofed so she doesn’t get into something that could hurt her.

*DOGS: She is currently living with 1 senior dog & is eager to play with him, but his energy level does not match hers. She will see him resting & bark incessantly at him & nip at him trying to get him to play. He corrects her often but she hasn’t learned proper manners yet, so it takes a bit of extra effort for him to get away from her. She would do best in a home with dog(s) who match her high puppy energy level & play style or as an only dog as long as her new family/owner ensures her exercise needs are met.

*CATS: Unknown; no exposure to cats in the foster home.

*KIDS: 8+ who are ok with a dog jumping on them & puppy nipping while she is learning manners. She has had exposure to children in the foster home & does well with them, but she is still young & bouncy when excited, so small children may not enjoy her energy. Children will need to be aware that she will steal their toys, socks, or anything else she can, so they will need to take care to keep everything out of her reach until she is properly trained.

*CAR: Great! She was transported in the car in a crate for 2 hours & has been on a couple of trips around town & does great.

*CRATE: She sleeps in her crate at night & she spends time in it when she needs to be left home alone. She has not had any accidents in the crate.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! She has not had any accidents since arriving with the foster family & lets everyone know when she needs to go out. She is taken out every couple of hours. She is still young, so her new family will need to be patient with her & make sure she gets regular potty breaks.

*LEASH: Walks well on leash but she is very young & gets distracted so more work is needed. Sophie tends to try & eat things off the ground so extra caution is needed. She is still learning & making progress every day.

* AT THE VET: Great at her vet check. She was fascinated by all the other dogs at the vet, & enjoyed making her presence known by barking at all the other dogs.

* WITH GROOMING: Sophie's foster did some minor grooming & Sophie had a hard time holding still for the clippers. She wanted to eat the clippers. She did well when she was held & someone else groomed her. Her foster family brushes her nightly, which she loves.

Sophie is a sweet 8-month-old female Goldendoodle puppy who was surrendered to IDOG by a family who loved her very much but had to rehome her because of a family member's medical issues. She is an energetic & playful puppy who loves to take walks & play fetch & also enjoys snuggles & belly rubs.

Here is what Sophie's foster family has to say about her:
Sophie is a sweet & loving puppy; she is all puppy & needs continued work on learning boundaries, continued training & guidance by her adopters. She has typical puppy behavior, is curious about everything & loves to be near her people. Once she knows you, she will jump in your lap, ask for snuggles & follow you around everywhere. We think with consistent training, she will be a wonderful girl.

Sophie is all puppy & will quickly steal a washcloth, pounce on a mop or chew her leash. She also likes to walk around the kitchen counter on her back legs trying to scope out anything she can snag. She is very quick & can steal things before you even realize it. You will want to make sure she has a lot of heavy chew toys around to keep her busy during quiet time.

She loves her senior 4-legged foster dog sibling & wants to play rough & tumble with him. Her energy does not match his & he often corrects her puppy behavior. She hasn't yet figured out that no means no & will keep trying to engage him in play even when he doesn't want to. They spend most of their day in separate rooms while the foster mom works from home. Sophie will quietly chew on a toy or antler during the day or ask to sit in foster mom’s lap while she works.

She would be best placed in a home with another dog(s) that matches her puppy energy & level of puppy play. She would also do well as an only dog with an active family/owner committed to ensuring her exercise needs are met.

Sophie is highly food motivated & is working on basic commands such as sit, stay, & down. She learned how to shake in less than 5 minutes, but that takes less focus than a stay comm&.

During the day Sophie can be found playing with toys, chewing a chew bone or sleeping under her foster mom's desk. She loves to play fetch & do zoomies around the yard. She loves walks & is curious about everything. She likes to stop & watch people, dogs, cars, birds & just about anything that moves or makes a sound.

Sophie is full of energy & excitement. She needs exercise in the form of long walks & zoomie time in the yard. She loves to play with chew toys. At times she can be a bit demanding & will jump up in your lap if you are sitting on the couch. If you have a computer in your lap, she will sit on that. It is very important that your home is puppy-proofed because she will steal & try to eat anything she can get – even off the counter. & once she gets it, it turns into a game of chase. We are continuing to work with her on “drop it” & she is getting better but still needs work. When she is excited she will puppy nip & we are working with her to learn this is not acceptable. She also likes to jump when excited. She has loved every person she has met. She enjoys being outside & running in the back yard. She will need continued socialization to learn all about the world & appropriate play behavior with other dogs.

Activities she enjoys:
*Fetch
*Walking
*Chew toys
*Squeaky toys
*Belly rubs
*Meeting new people

Sophie's 'needs work' items:
-not taking things from the counter or ground that she shouldn’t be eating
-obedience training & leash walking
-continued socialization to learn about the world
-continued work on puppy nipping & jumping on people
-learning how to calm down inside when walks & playtime are over

Due to the intense needs of puppies, we will require adopters to be experienced dog owners with someone home during the day, so she is provided with human interaction while continuing to work on training & socialization. We are looking for adopters who understand the training, exercise & socialization needs of puppies.

She is spayed & is up to date on core vaccines & is microchipped.. She has received a dewormer, is current on heartworm/flea tick preventives.

ADOPTION FEE: $1,000

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are very high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR SOPHIE-VIRGINIA PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

IDOG Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. HOW TO APPLY To apply for any of our dogs, please complete the application on our website: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application REHOMING ASSISTANCE - FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOODLE/POODLE IDOG Rescue also provides assistance and support for people who need to find a new home for their family pet - our motivation is to get these dogs into homes that understand the temperaments and needs of these energetic, playful & loving dogs.
