Meet Sophie-NC

Meet Sensational Sophie-NC!

Sophie is in an IDOG foster home in Gastonia-NC. Please read ALL the information in her listing before applying for her. If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for her, please complete our adoption application at
(copy/paste the URL into your browser).

If you have completed an application in the last 3 months and meet the requirements for his new home, you can email us at and let us know you are interested in Sophie.

We will review your application and let you know if you made our short list of applicants. We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.

We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

Our adoption process may take 2-4 weeks:
• You must be approved to adopt before we will schedule a meet and greet.
• We expect approved adopters to visit her in her foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt her.
• Our adoption process involves vet and personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract and an adoption fee.

*AGE: 15 months (born October 2019)

*WEIGHT: 59 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical secure fence is required. No electronic fence or e-collar will be allowed as we feel this would not set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Long straight moderate shedding coat. Her new family should be prepared to brush her daily and have her groomed every 6-8 weeks. This is approximately $100 per groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: high puppy. When she first sees you, she gets really excited but calms down very quickly. She will need daily exercise, socialization and training to work on manners.

*DOGS: She has lived with a dog her whole life so she may do best in a home with another dog. She does well with other dogs and would do well with a patient dog who can tolerate her puppy antics.

*CATS: unknown. She has had no exposure.

*KIDS: 8+. Her prior owner told us she does great with children but may jump on young children and accidentally knock them down.

*CAR: will get car sick if she eats right before going in car. Otherwise she rides in the car very well.

*CRATE: she will go in crate at night when you are home with no issues. Does not enjoy crate if left alone and will destroy the crate. She is in crate at night for about 8-9 hours with no issues. She has been left alone for about 6-8 hours in the house with no issues although she would much rather be next to you than in the crate.

*LEASH: Sophie likes going for walks and needs more training on leash to walk loosely.

Here's what Sophie’s foster parent has to say about her:

Sophie is a 15 month old 59 lb. female Goldendoodle who was surrendered to IDOG by her family who wanted her to get more attention and exercise than they were able to provide.

Are you looking for a Valentine that sticks to you like Velcro and follows you everywhere? Then Sophie is your gal!

Sophie is sweet like honey, fun-loving, and her personality shines! Sophie needs a home with a fenced yard and family that will be home the majority of the day or one she can be with. Sophie spent the majority of her day in her prior home living outside during the day so inside living is a whole new world for Sophie and she is thriving.

She has some separation anxiety and would do better in a home where humans are home regularly or she can go with them. Sophie is a young pup who wants to please! She loves attention and giving hugs and is a great companion. Her temperament is very sweet, loving, gentle, and playful. She is skittish and a bit fearful in new situations and will need patience and continued training and socialization. She is still a puppy so she should learn quickly.

The ideal home for Sophie is one where someone is home most of the day as she would much rather be next you than in a crate. She will follow you around everywhere and lay right next to you. She likes to play fetch and go on walks. She will need someone who is patient and willing to work with her on socialization and manners. She is a bit slow to warm up to people and may growl initially due to her lack of socialization but does warm up. She has shown no aggression whatsoever.

She would do well in a home with another dog that is patient. She has always had another dog in her home so would likely be more successful in a home with another dog. She needs daily exercise to keep her energy at a good level.

She loves tennis balls, tug-o-war, ice, frisbee, Benebones. She also has gone hiking with her foster and loved it.

Sophie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and house trained. She is heartworm and fecal negative and on heartworm/flea and tick preventatives.
