Sophie's Story

Sophie is a 1.5-year-old German Shepherd/Terrier mix whose journey is all about resilience, healing, and second chances.

Before coming to Southpaw, Sophie had a heartbreaking start to life. She spent most of her time confined to a crate, had never been on walks, never seen a veterinarian, and was given only enough food to survive. Despite everything she endured, Sophie’s spirit remained incredibly gentle and loving.

Now safe and cared for, Sophie is thriving in her foster home. She is fully vetted — spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped — and is finally discovering comfort, routine, and the joy of everyday life. She is fully trusted out of her crate, walks well on leash, and continues to gain confidence every day.

Sophie is doing wonderfully with the two large resident dogs in her foster home and has become very good at reading social cues and interacting appropriately with other dogs. Most importantly, despite everything she has been through, Sophie loves people, does well with kids, and enjoys being around other dogs. Every once in a while, she may meet a man she is initially unsure of, but once she knows she is safe, her sweet personality quickly shines through.

Sophie is looking for a patient, loving family who will continue showing her the kindness and stability she deserves. In return, she will reward them with endless loyalty, love, and companionship.

If you are interested in meeting Sophie, she's ready to meet you.
