Sophie's Story

Sophie is an adorable Vintage lady looking for a great home. She is 14 years old, weighs 10 pounds, and is mostly blind, although she can still see some shadows. She was surrendered to a shelter in Connecticut and is now safe and sound at our rescue and retirement home in Rhode Island.

Sophie is an incredibly sweet senior dog who spends a lot of her day sleeping. We always find her fast asleep in the middle of the floor, even after we lead her to a dog bed. The firm, flat floor may feel nicer on her joints; we'd recommend her adopter getting an orthopedic bed versus a soft, fluffy bed. Sophie has been friendly with every dog she's met while in our care. She doesn't mind being picked up and held, but due to her vision impairment, it's best to move slowly so she isn't startled.

Sophie has a grade 1 heart murmur. She also has a mature cataract in her right eye and a luxating lens in her left eye. Her eye pressure should be monitored and rechecked every 6 months to ensure she doesn't develop any pain. She also has elevated liver values (ALT & ALP). Since Sophie is not a candidate for surgery due to her advanced age, we did not do further testing to explore the possibility of a mass on her liver, nor can she be spayed.

We're looking for an adopter ready to give Sophie the love and care she deserves in her final chapter. Sophie is up-to-date on vaccinations and recently had full blood work.

If you're interested in adopting Sophie, please submit an application at: https://www.vintagepetrescue.org/adopt
