Sophia's Story

The 18-Pound Yorkie Mix Who Just Needs Her Person<br/><br/>Sophia has a dream. It's not complicated. She doesn't want fame, fortune, or an extensive toy collection. She simply wants to find her person — and then devote herself to that person with her whole entire heart.<br/><br/>This 3-year-old Yorkie/Terrier mix is undeniably cute, undeniably sweet, and — full transparency — undeniably a little shy. She came into foster care, took one look at Foster Mom, and thought "yes. you. it's you." We respect the commitment.<br/><br/>- Sophia is not the dog who charges the door, jumps on strangers, or immediately demands belly rubs from people she just met. She's more of a slow burn — a little timid, a little anxious at first, but once she decides you're her person? Game over. You have a devoted companion for life.<br/>- She plays! A good, healthy level of play that says "I'm fun" without saying "I will destroy your furniture."<br/>- She's food motivated, which means training is absolutely on the table. Consider it an exciting project waiting for the right human to take it on.<br/>- Fully housebroken and crated at night: Two things that are genuinely not small things.<br/>- She'd love more walks, more activity, and more training than her current situation allows. Basically, she's ready for someone to invest in her — and she will pay that investment back in loyalty tenfold.<br/>- Full transparency: Sophia came to us with a skin condition that's actively improving with baths and medication — she's already looking and feeling better! She may have food or environmental allergies, which her forever family can explore with a vet. A manageable puzzle for the right person who's ready to help her thrive!<br/><br/>Sophia isn't for everyone. She needs patience, gentleness, and someone willing to let her warm up at her own pace. But for the right person — the one she decides is hers — she will be the most devoted, loving, grateful little companion you've ever had.<br/><br/>She's already proven she knows how to love somebody completely. She just needs that somebody to be you. <br/><br/>If you are interested in finding out more about Sophia, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser:<br/><br/>https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog<br/><br/>Sophia is being fostered in Watertown, MA.<br/><br/>The adoption fee is $500.<br/><br/>Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!.<br/><br/>Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram!<br/><br/><br/>Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.<br/><br/>We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Broken Tail Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our Adoption Process Broken Tail Rescue is looking for responsible and caring people to give a dog or cat their much-needed second chance at happiness. To adopt from us, you must first complete an application, which you can complete online here: https://www.brokentailrescue.org/adopt/ Once we receive your application, the foster parent or application team will be in touch with you within a few days to discuss the application and the pet you are applying for. If the pet is a good match for your family, you will then be asked to meet the pet at the foster parent’s home, if applicable, or come to one of our cat adoption centers during our adoption hours. We ask that all members of the household come out to meet the pet. If you are applying for a dog, all current dogs in the household need to come meet the dog as well. If the animal is a good fit for your home (canines only), we will then check your references. We ask for two personal references and the name of the vet that you currently use or have used in the past. The last step in the adoption process is the home visit (canines only). We just want to make sure your home is generally a safe place for the pet to live and confirm the address listed on the application. After the home visit, the adoption can be completed! Paperwork is completed at the foster home, and you can take home your new pet! While the process may seem extensive, it generally is not a long, drawn-out process – we can move as quickly as schedules allow, and most adoptions are completed in under a week. However, we feel it is important to take time to make sure we are matching the pet to the correct home. We would hate for a pet to be returned to us because of a hasty decision. Adoption Guidelines The following are just a few initial guidelines you should consider before deciding to adopt: Some adoptions will require adopters to enroll the dog in training classes as a condition of adoption There may be additional adoption requirements for puppies (puppy socialization classes, someone home during the day, etc.) Renters must have landlord’s permission Adopters must be 21 years of age or older All adoptive homes must be stable, supportive, and capable and willing to meet all financial and veterinary needs of the animal Adoption Fees Adoption fees help defray the cost of transportation, care, and medical treatment. Dogs Our adoption fees are generally between $300 and $400 for most adult dogs and puppies and are decided on a case-by-case basis. All dogs adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and started on preventive, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment if needed, and microchipped. Cats Our adoption fee varies by age for cats and kittens: 1 Kitten (under 12 months): $350 2 Kittens: $650 1 Young Cat (1-4yrs): $275 2 Young Cats: $500 1 Adult Cat (5-9 yrs): $225 2 Adult Cats: $400 Senior (10+ yrs): $150 Special Needs Cat: $150 or TBD 2 Senior or Special Needs: $250 or TBD All cats adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV tested, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment, and microchipped.
