Solara's Story

Solara is a 6 year old smooth red Dachshund with a gentle spirit and a story that has shaped who she is today. She came from a commercial breeding facility where life was not kind to her, and the experience left her very unsure about people. Because of that, Solara is extremely shy, skittish, and startled easily. She prefers to be touched only on her own terms and needs time to feel safe.
Despite everything she has been through, Solara is slowly learning that the world can be a better place. She has made progress in foster care but is still very fearful of people. What she needs most is a patient, understanding adopter who will let her progress at her own pace and celebrate the small victories along the way. We do t know if she’ll ever be a snuggly dog as she is very guarded, but we are hoping as she continues to make progress, she will be more open to pets and cuddles.
Solara delights in some simple pleasures. She likes going outside, exploring the world in a safe environment, so a securely fenced yard is a must. She enjoys basking in the sun and squiggle rolls in the grass. Solara also does well with other dogs who help her feel more comfortable and confident so she will need a resident dog in her forever home.
Solara is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, kennel trained and is doing well with house training. She will do best in a calm home with a canine companion and a patient person or family who understands that trust takes time. With kindness, consistency, and a gentle approach, Solara has the potential to blossom into a devoted companion.
