Meet Snickers

Snickers became paralyzed at the age of 4 in February 2017. Because he came into our rescue in July, he was no longer a candidate for surgical repair of his IVDD. He has seen the neurologist for confirmation.

Snickers is seriously the sweetest boy ever, he just loves affection, love and pets. He is so dedicated to him human, and will be your shadow once he falls head over heels with you (which doesn't take long).

Because of his paralysis, he is incontinent, both urinary, and his bowels. He needs to have his bladder expressed around 4 times per day (this is easy to do and doesn't take much time at all). He does not need to wear a bellyband if his bladder is expressed regularly throughout the day, and it is better for his skin to not always be in a bellyband. Overnight, he wears a belly band to prevent leakage.

He must stay on Medi-cal/Royal Canin Fibre Response dry food, with a little of the canned mixed in, or with a little pumpkin puree, to keep his poops firm little nuggets. Easy to pick up, and very little mess.

Snickers loves to cruise around in his little wheelchair and is quite speedy!! He is good with other dogs, but should not live with a dog that is too rambunctious. This is to prevent any future injuries of his back. He should also be in an adult only home so he isn't being picked up in the wrong way.

We would love to see Snickers in a home that would be able to provide him everything he needs. A yard with grass (he Loves being in the grass without his wheelchair). Someone who will take him for walks in his wheelchair. Someone who will keep him clean and express his bladder. Someone who will let him cuddle with them as often as possible. Someone who is willing to learn to care for him, if they have never had a paralyzed dog before. Someone who will continue to do rehab and therapy, so he can gain more strength in his hind legs, as he is already starting to spinal walk.

This boy is one in a million, do not let his special needs deter you from giving him a home. It isn't too hard to take care of a paralyzed dog, especially if you have compassion, patience and understanding.

Even a dog in a wheelchair deserves the best home for the rest of his life!!
