Smokey Joe's Story
Sweet Smokey is 2 years old. Like your typical AM Staff, he is a real sweetheart. Smokey was purchased by a young man who got his first apartment and subsequently found he could not have a dog. Smokey's family asked us to help them find a permanent home for him so we took him into one of our foster homes and he is doing great!

Smokey loves other dogs, and is curious about cats (in a good way!). Smokey is a very well behaved pup. In fact, he has the run of the house when I (foster mom) am not home. Smokey is neutered and up to date on his shots. He weighs about 64 pounds now and is full grown. We are not sure what his mix is, he has a longer, more lean look than a typical Am Staff, he may have some Boxer or Great Dane in the mix too.

Smokey has a great attitude towards other dogs, and is so sweet when he plays with them - so we are looking for a home where he will have a doggie brother or sister. Smokey played and romped with my nephews ages 8 and up, and had a grand time. However he does not live with children so his exposure has been limited. We typically prefer adult homes for our dogs as they usually have more the time to devote to their 4-legged kids.

We have some great photos of Smokey sleeping on his back with his legs in the air. He is like a little cartoon dog sometimes. At night he likes to sleep with his head on my shoulder, or on one of his pals.

Smokey is friendly but he sure has a big bark! He sounds more imposing than much bigger dogs. We just won't tell any burglars that he is as gentle as a lamb and would welcome them with warm puppy kisses.

Please note: A fenced in yard is required. Smokey can easily jump 3' fences so we prefer 5'-6' fencing. You must be at least 28 years old to adopt a dog from us. We are not able to adopt to renters, sorry!

Smokey has an allergy that makes him want to lick his feet, so we are going through allergy shots want to make sure we've got that problem "licked!" before we let him go to a new home. Hopefully sometime this spring!

Prospective owners must agree to a screening process that includes an interview, pre/post adoption home visits and the signing of an adoption contract. Anyone that loves and respects the breed will understand the need for to find the best match for Smokey and his new family.

<br

We prefer homes who want to go to an obedience class. Training strengthens the bond and trust that you have with your dog, and it's fun, for both you and your dog! Dogs like to think and to be mentally challenged. Contrary to what many people think, they don't want to be couch potatoes. The training you do together will be an investment in the future. Smokey has such great potential - we would love to see him get his CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) certification.

For more information please email: FosterParentsforPooches@gmail.com Thanks!
