Smokey is a beautiful 4–6 month-old black Lab mix, weighing about 25 pounds, with a sweet, calm nature and a wonderful desire to please. Smokey and her sister, Sparky #10, have quite a story. The two puppies were discovered by a woman as her shop was burning down. Amid the smoke and confusion, she suddenly saw two little puppies. She had no idea where they came from or how they ended up there—she only knew they needed help. Unable to keep them herself, she found help from a veterinary technician who brought the sisters to an animal clinic, where they have been cared for and fully vetted. And that’s how Smokey and Sparky got their names—two little puppies who quite literally came out of the smoke. <br/><br/>Despite her uncertain beginning, Smokey is already showing what a wonderful companion she will be. She is attentive, eager to please and learning quickly. When taken out individually, she stays close to her handler and walks nicely on a leash. She loves playing with other dogs and especially enjoys romping with her sister, but she also has a calmer, people-focused side.<br/><br/>Smokey loves riding in the car, is comfortable in a crate and can hold it through the night. Her house-training status hasn’t been fully determined since she is currently kenneled at a veterinary clinic, and she has not yet been evaluated with cats. This sweet girl has so much going for her—affectionate, dog-friendly, eager to learn and devoted to her people.<br/><br/>Smokey's life may have started with uncertainty, but now she’s ready for a much happier chapter: a family of her own, a safe place to land and all the love she deserves.<br/><br/>From out of the smoke came Smokey.
