Smoke's Story

❤️ADOPT SMOKE❤️

Smoke is a handsome 148-pound mastiff and 100% a gentle giant at heart. At 7 years old, he has that perfect mix of maturity and just enough goofiness to keep you smiling. He seems to be potty trained and is friendly with every person he meets. He’s a big boy who doesn’t quite realize just how big he is, so we recommend kids 10 years and older, as he could easily knock a little one down without meaning to...even his tail has some power behind it.
Smoke is strong on a leash and will need someone confident handling him, so no children or elderly individuals should be walking him. He could benefit from some leash training, but overall he is a good boy who just needs a little guidance. He does have some anxiety in the car and will bark the entire ride, so that’s something to be prepared for.
When it comes to other animals, Kansas City Pet Project noted he seemed to do better with female dogs. His previous owner said he lived with a female pitbull but did show food aggression with her, so that’s something we will take into consideration when choosing the right home. He has not shown much reaction to Colt or Sunshine through the kennels here at the pound, though he did bark at a dog through a door at the vet. He previously lived with cats, but we cannot guarantee how he would do since we are unable to test that here.
We took him to the vet this morning where he was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and is currently on eye drops twice a day. He is neutered (even if it doesn’t quite look like it...our vet says that will change over time!), up to date on vaccines, and is microchipped.
Smoke loves playing ball, back scratches and kisses on his head, and despite his size, he truly just wants to be close to his people. He is a big, lovable, slightly clueless-about-his-size teddy bear who needs a home that understands large breeds and can give him the structure and love he deserves.
If you have the space, strength, and heart for a giant companion, Smoke is ready to give you a lifetime of loyalty, laughs, and love. Call us at 816-532-0070 or send us a message here to meet him!
