Sloopy's Story

Meet Sloopy

Some dogs survive.

Sloopy chose to live.

At approximately 9 years old and 14 pounds, this sweet little Shih Tzu has endured more hardship than any dog ever should. Years of neglect left him blind before he was abandoned in a rural area to fend for himself. As he wandered through thick brush searching for help, foxtails became embedded in his skin, ears, and even his eyes, causing devastating damage.

A kind stranger found him and brought him to the county shelter, where the severity of his condition placed him on the euthanasia list.

Then everything changed.

The moment we met Sloopy, we knew we couldn't leave him behind. Despite being in excruciating pain, he greeted every person with nothing but kindness. He leaned into gentle hands, welcomed affection, and reminded us that even after everything he'd endured, his heart was still wide open.

Our veterinary team gave Sloopy the fresh start he deserved. He underwent extensive surgery to remove both damaged eyes, remove foxtails from his skin and ears, extract most of his painful teeth, and be neutered.

And somehow...he never stopped wagging.

Today, Sloopy is completely healed and finally living a pain-free lifelikely for the first time in many years. He's learning to navigate the world without eyesight, and he does it with remarkable confidence. He happily trots around the house, plays with other dogs, and absolutely loves toys. One of our favorite things is watching him lie on his back, holding a toy between his front paws above his face as he entertains himself. It's impossible not to smile.

Sloopy gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats. He has been nothing but gentle from the day we rescued him. Because he's a small senior, we think he'd be happiest in a home without young children, where life is a little quieter and he can enjoy the comfort and security he's waited so long to find.

After everything he's survived, we're searching for the family that will make the rest of his story the very best part.

A family that will be patient as he continues to build confidence.

A family that will treasure his gentle heart.

A family that will never let him wonder if he's safe or loved again.

If you think you can give Sloopy the life he's always deserved, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today at themisfitranch.com.
