Meet Sloane

Without a doubt, Sloane is a wonderful testament to her breed. She is loving and loyal and wants to please her pack leader. With that said, Sloane will need a very specific home, one that is right for her and one that understands that patience and time will all be something she must have in order to feel comfortable in her new home.

You see. . . Sloane has a very sad story and one that has permanently affected her. She was picked up by animal control after being hit by a car. With numerous abrasions as well as the most serious injury of a severely broken pelvis, our rescue stepped in to help her. We immediately got her in to see our vet who then sent here directly to an orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon determined that he injury was actually a good bit older than the time frame she has spent in the shelter. So, we do not know how long Sloane was out and alone and own her own with this injury before being brought to the animal control/shelter facility. The surgeon did an absolutely amazing job at repairing her pelvis, and she has healed well and is capable of running just as if she had no injury at all.

However, Sloane's story doesn't stop there. Sloane still, for some reason, was wary of anyone other than her foster mom. It may have been her previous home/owners, it may have been her injuries that went for so long untreated, it may have been the shelter environment, or it may have been a combination of all of those things. At any rate, her foster mom sought out professional advice from a behaviorist at the University of Georgia. And, with lots of work, patience, love, medications, and behavior modifications, Sloane has made huge strides and trusts more than she every has before. With that said, new people are scary, so it's going to take someone who is willing to give her a chance and be patient until she learns that she can trust that person, too. Sloane would likely do best with a single woman who had a good bit of time to spend with her.
Sloane deserves this chance!

If you are interested in learning more about Sloane, please free to email her foster mom, Brandy, at bjames@westga.edu. Emailing her directly (instead of emailing the rescue email or calling the rescue directly) will get you a faster response.

Also, please note that those with breed experience will be given preference with adoption over those who do not have experience.

If you wish to receive an adoption application for Sloane, please visit us at our website (www.hickorylevelhoundrescue.org) and click on the "Donate" page to pay the $10 application fee and then email her foster mom, Brandy (see above email address) to let her know you've done so, and she will send you an application.
