Sleepy's Story

Basics
Sleepy! We’ve also been calling her Angel, Smiley, & Pretty Girl a lot - she’s just the sweetest!
Age / Size: Age 12, we think she is about 50lbs
Rescued in Texas

Personality Snapshot
Describe in 3–5 words: Gentle, Smiley, Magnetic, Quiet
Energy level (Low / Moderate / High): Moderate, especially for her age!
More people‑oriented or independent? She is pretty independent but loves to know that people are in the room with her.
How do they handle new situations? She has been very calm in new situations; her first night with us, we could tell she was slightly anxious because she was pacing for a couple hours. Since her first night she has been completely settled.

Social & Home Life
How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)? Wonderful! She politely introduces herself and then usually goes to rest in an area where she has a little more privacy.
How are they with other dogs? She is interested in meeting other dogs (sniffs them, smiles), but hasn’t had much play time with other dogs around us yet!
Cats or other animals (if known)? Unknown
Behavior when left alone or when guests visit: She is very calm when left alone as well as when meeting guests. She shows interest in new people, but doesn’t seem to be too concerned by them once she gives them a good sniff. We’ve been with her over 48 hours and have yet to hear her bark.

Training & Manners
Potty trained? Yes!
Crate trained? Yes!
Leash skills: She is good on her leash, but her vision is not the best, so needs a little extra guidance sometimes (especially in the dark).
Commands known (if any): Unknown

Daily Life
Typical day with you: Wake up for an early walk, followed by a treat and breakfast and a little bit of playing. Then she relaxes with me while I get ready for work. She will go into the crate when I leave for a couple hours until my roommate comes home around noon. She’ll take another walk, play some more, and spend time with roommate. She’ll take another walk or two
in the early evening, making sure to hit the park at some point during the daylight hours. Dinner between 5-6, and another walk before bedtime in crate (between 9-10 usually).
Exercise needs: Needs a few walks daily, one extra long one during the daylight hours. She is older, so you can kind of tell when she starts getting tuckered out.
Favorite activities or toys: So far the only toy she is interested in is playing catch with her tennis ball!

Growth Areas
Anything they’re still working on? So far she has not been very snuggly; she will allow pets for up to 30 seconds at a time, but after that point she tends to like her space. She does still like to make sure she is close to her human and finds comfort in it.
What helps them succeed? She loves encouragement! Whether it’s verbal or with treats. We can feel her getting more and more confident every day!

Ideal Home
Only dog / With dog / Either: Either!
Good fit for apartment living? Yes!
Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): I would say calm to moderate just due to her age, but I think she would be genuinely happy anywhere.
What kind of adopter would be the best match? I think she would be an excellent companion for a single person or a couple; as long as someone is available to give her walks and treats she will love them.

Foster Note
What do you love most about them? I love her calming spirit; when you look her in the eyes, it just feels like you can finally breathe!
Why will they make a great companion? She will make a great companion because she is just happy to be loved and be around you!
Do they have any funny quirks? She absolutely LOVES drinking out of the toilet, so best to keep bathroom doors closed.
Anything else an adopter should know? She is just the sweetest dog ever! She has been the easiest pup in the world thus far, you can tell she really appreciates being taken care of. Her vision isn’t great, so she tends to prefer a well lit room.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Sleepy, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.

Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!

True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
