Skye's Story

Skye has had a journey to our shelter under special circumstances. Skye came to us with her brother, Stormy in October 2025 and then again in December 2025.

In October, Skye and Stormy were brought to our shelter after an incident involving ducks and chickens. As it turns out, they too like the taste of chicken and duck, much like some humans. Because they were involved with an unprovoked attack regarding livestock on a neighboring farm, they were received to our shelter as 'impound dogs' and categorized as 'dangerous' dogs.

The declaration was appealed and they are now 'potentially dangerous' dogs simply because of the incident involving the poultry. However, this does not impede their ability to be wonderful dogs for a family. They may not be great dogs to have around if you have free-range poultry but their personalities and disposition are anything but potentially dangerous.

Skye and Stormy returned to their owners in November 2025 and resided with them until late December 2025 where they were then abandoned at a rental property. Skye was pregnant at the time and delivered 6 puppies, 5 live pups, on Christmas Day, however none of the pups survived. We were able to take custody shortly thereafter.

Now, at no fault of her own, she is back at our shelter with Stormy and is now looking for a new home. They are not a bonded pair - they can be adopted separately.

Skye is an absolute sweetheart. She loves people, loves attention, loves to be pet and loves to shower people with kisses and hugs. She enjoys treats, belly rubs and snuggles. She is anything but aggressive or dangerous - she's very sweet.

She would greatly benefit from someone who is willing to give her lots of praise, positive attention and love. She does need some training - someone to work with her and teach her some boundaries and rules, such as not jumping on people. She is super smart though and we have no doubt at all that she will pick this up quickly.

Because she has a lot of power in her jump, she may not do great with younger kids who are more susceptible to being knocked over - at least until she is trained.

She is still young and is still learning to save her potty for outdoors. Occasionally she will have an accident or two. We are working on this with her.

Skye will be spayed shortly and receive her rabies vaccination. She is up to date on her distemper and bordetella vaccinations. She has received her latest monthly dose of flea & tick preventative and will be tested shortly for heart worm, Ehrlichia Canis, Lyme's and Anaplasma (4DX).

Skye came to us with Stormy and the two have done well together. We do not know how she would do with other dogs as this is something we do not test at the shelter due to insurance limitations. Skye does not seem to mind the other dogs in the shelter though. We do not know how she would do with cats.

Skye just needs the right people to come - once and for all. Celebrate her, love her and encourage her - she deserves the best.
