Sky's Story
### Meet Sky: From Pancake to Puppy!

Sky is a 4-month-old yellow Lab who has already overcome more in her short life than most dogs will ever face. And now? **She can FLY.**

Sky was born with a congenital condition called **Swimmer’s Syndrome**, a condition that requires early physical therapy to help a puppy’s legs develop properly. Ideally, treatment begins around 2–3 weeks of age. Unfortunately, Sky didn’t receive that help.

We were contacted by her breeder when Sky was almost **9 weeks old**. She had spent her entire life lying flat on her belly, unable to get up or move normally. She had essentially been a little pancake since the day she was born.

But the day Sky came to us, everything changed.

She started her journey in a quad cart (the same one Nova used ), allowing gravity to help encourage her legs into the proper position. She also began working with an incredible physical therapist who created a plan to help her build strength and, eventually, get her off the ground.

At first, progress came in tiny baby steps. Stretches multiple times a day. Then floor exercises. More strength. More confidence.

And then one day during a therapy session...

**Sky stood up.**

And she hasn't looked back.

Today, Sky is running, playing, exploring, and doing all of the things we once weren't sure she'd ever get to do. She still works with Stevie three times a day to fine-tune her legs, strengthen her muscles, and help her body keep up with all the growing she has left to do.

And now comes the next chapter: **her forever home.**

Sky is **100% Lab and 1000% puppy.** She has discovered that there is an entire world out there that she wants to see, smell, investigate, taste, chase, and probably occasionally attempt to eat.

She is busy. She is curious. She is goofy. She is energetic. She is learning. And she is absolutely determined to experience EVERYTHING.

Her forever family will need to be committed to continuing the work that got Sky here. We aren't looking for someone who simply wants an adorable yellow Lab puppy. We are looking for someone who understands that Sky's physical and mental development will need to be supported as she grows. Her therapy and exercises will need to continue, and her family will need to be willing to give her the time, patience, structure, and enrichment she needs to keep building strength and confidence.

We will be **very selective** about Sky's placement because she deserves a family that is ready to continue investing in her future.

We are accepting applications and will be doing meet-and-greets, but this will **not** be a quick process. We want to take the time to make sure Sky's next home is the right fit for her—and that she's the right fit for them.

Sky has already worked incredibly hard to get here.

She went from lying flat like a pancake to discovering that she has **places to go and a whole world to explore.**

Now we're looking for the people who will help her keep flying.

**Sky is ready for her forever. Are you ready for Sky?**

Adoption fee is $350
Adoption Applications available at rpaw.org
