Skittles's Story

Hi! I’m Skittles — a sweet, playful pup who’s learning just how wonderful the world can be.

I used to think everything was a little suspicious, but I’m discovering that toys are fun, people can be kind (especially when they have treats), and kiddie pools are basically the best invention ever. I’m curious, goofy, and full of personality once I feel safe.

Dogs are my happy place.
I absolutely love other dogs and would be over the moon to have a playful canine sibling in my forever home. I take my role as “enthusiastic little sister” very seriously — I start games, steal toys, and invite everyone to play (sometimes loudly 😄). Having another dog around helps me feel confident, safe, and ready to take on the world.

With people, I’m still learning. I’m not a cuddly lap dog just yet — I prefer to show my love through games, following you around, and learning fun tricks (my favorite is touching your hand with my nose for treats!). I’ll happily work and play with you, but I ask that physical affection be gentle and on my terms while I build trust.

Because of this, a home without kids is best for me — I need calm, patient humans who understand that I warm up at my own pace.

I’m currently on anxiety medication and will need to stay on it, and I’m looking for one or two kind adults who are happy to go slow and celebrate the little wins. Trust, once earned, means everything to me.

Home life? I’m nailing it.
I love comfy beds, climate control, and napping the day away with my dog friends while my foster parents are at work. I’m crate trained and also do just fine being loose in the house. When my people get home, though, I’m all about playtime and zoomies.

I’m not ready for leash walks yet — we’re working on positive associations with collars, harnesses, and leashes, but pressure still makes me nervous and I could try to run if I panic. Because of that, I need a securely fenced yard where I can play, explore, bark happily, and chase the occasional garden snake. I’d also do best in a home without cats, since my chase instinct is pretty strong.

I know I’m not the right fit for every home... but for the right person, I’ll be something really special. If you have a calm home, a playful dog, and a heart big enough to fall in love with a shy but silly girl, I just might be your perfect match.

Current Foster Location: Kinburn, ON

It Takes A Village Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
Hopeful adopters must fill out an adoption application. All applications are screened and potential matches are contacted. Follow up questions are emailed. A phone call is set up to clarify any questions about the adoption process. At that point the fosters are provided the contact information for the potential adopters. They set up a meet and greet at the fosters home. During the meet the foster will tell the potential adopter the good, the bad. and the ugly about the dog... we want total transparency in order to have an open and successful adoption. After the meet we ask the fosters and the adopters their thoughts. If the adopter would like to proceed, their references are checked and a virtual home visit is conducted. If the adoptable dog has any sort of behavioural or medical issues a plan to address the issue would be required before adoption could proceed. If all is good then the adoption contract is sent out to be signed and returned along with the adoption fee. The foster is given the green light to arrange pick up.
