Skittles's Story
Introducing Skittles from our Sweet Temptations litter! He’s 14 weeks old, weighs 11 pounds, and is so sweet we’re beginning to suspect someone dipped him in sugar before handing him to us. He’s happy-go-lucky, loves to cuddle, and will happily let you hold him like the tiny, fluffy baby he is. Honestly, if he were any more agreeable, we’d have to check whether he was real or one of those stuffed animals that breathes. Skittles is a Poodle, possibly mixed with Havanese, Schnauzer, or another small breed we are wildly unqualified to identify. We know Great Pyrenees. We know how to navigate around a sleeping polar bear in the hallway. But these tiny babies showed up, and we looked at Skittles thinking, “What the heck are we supposed to do with you? Put you in a purse? Check the couch cushions every time you disappear?” We estimate Skittles will stay around or under 30 pounds, if he even makes it that far. Could there be 1% Great Dane hiding in there, waiting to make us look ridiculous? We don’t think so. Can we guarantee it? Absolutely not. We rescue polar bears for a living; small-dog genetics are apparently a carnival game. What we can tell you is that Skittles is a cheerful, cuddly little sweetheart who’s happy to be held and even happier to have someone to snuggle. He may be small enough to misplace behind a throw pillow, but his ability to make you fall in love with him is doing just fine.

Apply to adopt Skittles:
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Skittles is being fostered in Hutchinson, KS. His adopter must personally pick him up there. We do not transport.

What Skittles lacks in size, he has made up for in enthusiasm. His foster rates his energy a 7 out of 10, and he approaches puppy life like someone has just announced that every day is his birthday. He loves toys, enjoys playing in water, and is delighted to have other dogs around. His foster calls him “the life of the party and an overenthusiastic guest,” which feels accurate for a boy who would arrive at a gathering, greet everyone before being introduced, and immediately ask when the games start. Fetch, however, has not won his support. Skittles is happy to play with a toy, but if you throw it across the yard, he may simply look at you as if to say, “That seemed careless. I hope you find it.” After he’s finished supervising the party, Skittles has an entirely different agenda: cuddles. He likes being held, settles down, and gives kisses with the sweet innocence of a puppy who definitely wasn’t just campaigning to be president of the toy basket. He’s a happy-go-lucky little boy with a busy side and a soft, affectionate side, and somehow both fit inside 11 pounds. Skittles hasn’t been around children or cats in his foster home, so we don’t yet know how he’ll do with either. His foster thinks he would likely be fine meeting new people because he’s so outgoing, though she hasn’t had a chance to see much of that firsthand. He hasn’t shown any particular fears or dramatic overreactions. The vacuum has not, as far as we know, caused him to pack a tiny suitcase and leave.

He does occasionally bark along with the other dogs. Think of him as a casual commentator: he may not know what everyone is discussing, but if the group has decided it matters, he would like his opinion entered into the record. Skittles could probably be happy going on adventures or hanging out at home, provided he gets the exercise a lively puppy needs. His foster thinks either a securely fenced yard or a home without one could work for him with regular exercise. He hasn’t been evaluated on leash walks yet, so his future family will get to teach him the exciting concept of walking in one direction while connected to a human who has opinions about where that direction should be. At home, Skittles is still learning the basics. He isn’t potty trained and doesn’t know commands yet. He sleeps in an exercise pen with his siblings and stays there when his foster is away, though we don’t know how he’d do kenneled by himself. He hasn’t been getting on the couch, chewing things he shouldn’t, staging elaborate escapes, or getting into other mischief. We cannot promise those last few accomplishments will survive the moment he realizes he is a puppy with free will, but so far, he has kept his record impressively tidy.

Skittles’s ideal home is a loving one that’s ready for a rowdy puppy: people who will enjoy his playful energy, keep working on the household basics, and give him plenty of affection. He’s funny and bold and full of life, but he’s also a little boy who wants to curl up in someone’s arms and hand out kisses when the excitement is over. So, if your life could use an 11-pound burst of joy who plays hard, cuddles harder, and gives kisses as though they’re his full-time job, Skittles would love to meet you. He’s a funny, affectionate little guy with a big personality and a lot left to learn. Give him patience, guidance, and a place in your arms when the party winds down, and you’ll get to watch this sweet little whirlwind grow into your best friend.

If you’d like to adopt him, fill out the entire adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can send it to his foster family. Yes, the entire thing. “Interested!” in the comments is charming, but Skittles’s foster needs a little more to go on than your enthusiasm and a profile picture. If approved, you’ll need to pick him up in Hutchinson, Kansas. Skittles may be purse-sized, but he will not be mailed, delivered, or tucked into someone’s carry-on.
