Skippy's Story

MEET SKIPPY!
Meet me and some of my other foster friends this Saturday, May 30 from 11am – 2pm at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre! We would love to help you find your newest family member. To help make the adoption process smoother, please complete an adoption application online ahead of time to become pre-approved. All members of the household — including any current dogs — must be present at the event so we can complete introductions and help verify compatibility. Please note that we do not hold dogs, and many potential adopters will be attending the event. We hope to see you there!

Skippy is a handsome 2-year-old Miniature Poodle mix weighing approximately 12 pounds who has already overcome quite a rough start. Found wandering the streets of Detroit as a severely matted and overgrown stray, Skippy was carrying around painful mats that pulled tightly on his skin and made even simple movement uncomfortable. To finally give him relief, he had to be completely shaved down — and underneath all that neglected fur was an incredibly sweet, happy little dog just waiting to shine.

Now feeling so much better, Skippy's personality has truly blossomed. He is an outgoing, social, and affectionate boy who loves meeting new people and being part of the action. He has an energetic and playful personality, so he is searching for an active family that can keep up with his fun-loving spirit. Whether he is going for walks, zooming around a securely fenced yard, or bouncing around the house looking for attention, Skippy is happiest when he is included in daily life.

Because of his energy level and tendency to bark when excited or alerting to activity, Skippy would not be an ideal fit for apartment living. He would do best in a home with a secure physical fenced yard where he can safely burn off energy. He is not a good fit for a tether or invisible fence system.

Skippy does well with other dogs that can tolerate his enthusiastic play style and energetic personality. He also has no issues with cats. Due to his activity level and excitement, we feel he would do best with older, dog-savvy children who can respectfully interact with him and understand when he gets overly excited.

He has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners in foster care and is learning household routine nicely. While Skippy is not particularly fond of his crate, he is making progress with consistency and patience.

As a Poodle mix, Skippy will require regular professional grooming throughout his life. His future family should be prepared to keep up with routine coat maintenance and work with a patient groomer, as Skippy can be a bit fidgety during grooming sessions.

Skippy has left his difficult past behind and is ready for a future filled with love, stability, and adventure. He is looking for a family that will cherish him furever and give him the happy life he has always deserved.

Skippy is:
Current on Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies
Dewormed
Heartworm Tested: Negative
Receiving Heartworm and Flea Prevention
Microchipped
Neutered

ADOPTION FEE: $375

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. We process applications ONLY - there is no guarantee that you will get a response to an inquiry.

Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal's temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different.

While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.

FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE. ADOPTION FEES ARE NECESSARY TO HELP US COVER VETTING COSTS FOR OUR RESCUED ANIMALS.
