SISSY
Rat Terrier mix
13 years old, 29 lbs

***********************************
Sissy is a 13 year old Rat Terrier mix who weighs 29lbs, but is on a diet! :) Sissy came into rescue when her owner had to move into a nursing home. She was taken to a high kill Louisiana shelter, before being pulled by a local foster based rescue. While getting routine veterinary care it was discovered she has diabetes. It took some time, but Sissy is now used to eating a diabetic diet and taking insulin injections. She is a grazer so her foster mom had to learn how to set feeding times to get Sissy to eat all of her food so she could get her shots. Sissy's foster mom says, "Sissy is a sassy old lady who is set in her ways and does get snappy especially with other dogs when they get too wild. She would do best in a home with other calm animals (or even as an only dog) and no children. Her new family must also be comfortable administering injections twice a day and taking Sissy in for routine check ups to be sure her insulin dose is correct. Sissy sleeps in a kennel at night. This was a spot of contention at first. She would whine, cry, and howl for hours. This was resolved when she realized she wasn't alone. Her foster mom made sure Sissy could see her foster brother in a kennel close by. I think she would be fine out of a kennel, but because I have so many critters and I know she isn't a fan of them, I figured giving her a safe space at night was best. She stays out during the day and does fine. She likes walks and being outside, but does not care for care rides. Sissy is a lap dog at heart once you get to know her!" This darling girl was uprooted from the only home she has ever known and deserves to find a new family to care for her for the rest of her day. Senior dogs are awesome! Especially special needs seniors! Please email us at TheChiSociety@gmail.com to apply for this adorable girl and please mention whether you have experience with diabetes maintenance in dogs.
