Simba's Story

Rowan and her family have been volunteering and fostering for over five years. And by “fostering,” we mostly mean foster failing.
So when Rowan asked if she could pull a dog from the shelter and go “all the way” with him, we said yes...as long as we could check the dog out first.

Well...meet Simba!

Simba was found as a stray and ended up at the South LA Shelter, where he sat for three months. Three months! Rowan sent us his picture. And, well...we have a weakness for handsome faces. What can we say? We’re not made of stone.

Simba has some scars and healing wounds on his body, but thankfully, nothing serious. What was serious was a nasty upper respiratory infection that was not going to get any better sitting in a shelter.

So, at seven years old, with a bad URI and three months of shelter life behind him, Simba officially became a member of the Squad.
And apparently, he has decided he has hit the jackpot.

Rowan and her three roommates—all college girls who have grown up with dogs—are completely spoiling him. They’re making sure he takes his meds, feeding him lots of good food, giving him tons of attention, and generally treating him like the distinguished gentleman he clearly believes he is.
And you know what?
It’s working.

Simba is doing GREAT! He is thriving in their home and even got a good grade from our vet for temperament. We’re pretty sure he has already figured out that being rescued comes with room service.

At 54 pounds, Simba is the perfect size—not too big, not too small, and definitely big enough to take up an unreasonable amount of space on the couch.

Once his URI has completely cleared up, he’ll be neutered and get the much-needed dental work he deserves. Then he’ll be ready to find his forever home.
For now, though, Simba is exactly where he needs to be: safe, healthy, loved, spoiled rotten, and very possibly wondering why he didn’t get rescued sooner.
Welcome to the Squad, Simba

https://dawgsquad.org/adoption-application/

The Dawg Squad's Adoption Policy
The first step in our adoption procedure is to fill out the Dawg Squad Adoption Application. The reason for our application is twofold. First of all, there are many types of dogs, personalities and subsequent requirements. As a service to our dogs and potential adopters, the application helps us ascertain which dog and home would be most suitable. Furthermore, introduction into a new home can be a traumatic event for many dogs and if not done properly may present challenges for the dog to adapt to your home. Obviously the last thing we want is the dog to harm other members of your family or chew up your place. We want to make sure it has a very good chance of becoming a permanent, happy member in your family. Therefore, it is important to identify potential problems before they arise. With that being said, please answer all of the application questions as completely as possible. If a question does not apply to you, then just enter “n/a” as the answer. We need everything to be filled out on the application since incomplete applications cannot be processed and will be deleted. Once we receive your filled application, one of our volunteers will contact you, your veterinarian, and your references, and then make arrangements for a home visit. If things look promising enough, then you are well on your way in forming a lifelong relationship with your new pet! WE ONLY ADOPT TO HOMES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA The minimum adoption donation for all dogs is $400.00.
