Five year old Sienna came into our care in May of 2023 shortly after she had been purchased off Craigslist. Her owners saw an add and met someone in a park where they handed over Sienna. No records, no past history, nothing. <br/>After a few weeks, they realized the thumping noises they were hearing at night was Siennas head hitting the floor as she was having grand mal seizures. They took Sienna to the vet and she was started on medication but due to her owners work schedule, it was difficult to get her meds in on time. She continued to have grand mal seizures and began to decline. After another trip to the vet it was recommended that she follow up with a specialty hospital. It was going to be financially difficult to pursue further medical help so they reached out to another rescue who wasnt able to take Sienna in and contacted us to help.<br/>Heres where we begin.... When Siennas foster mother picked her up, she was exhibiting seizure activity and had been according to her owner for over a week. She drove straight to the emergency hospital where she spent the next 48 hours until she was stabilized enough to do an exam. Her liver levels were off the chart and it was determined that she might have a liver shunt. She was started on medication and once she was strong enough and seizure free for two weeks she underwent surgery to repair her liver shunt. Thats it, right?? No.... Unfortunately we learned that having a liver shunt repaired doesnt automatically fix the problem and seizure activity may continue. In Sienna's case, it did continued.<br/>Sienna sees a Neurologist and it's recommended that she have an MRI and a C-Scan. Sadly we find out that she has brain damage from her non-stop seizure activity. While the surgery to repair the liver shunt fixed the original problem (blood circulating to her brain) the damage from two years of toxins flowing to her brain and the seizures was permanent. What do we do?? The neurologist said there is no repairing the damage to her brain BUT if we can get the seizure activity under control, Sienna will enjoy a quality life.<br/>So here we are now... Sienna hasnt had a seizure in over a month. She takes two medications twice a day (a.m. and p.m.) and shes a happy girl. Sienna loves to eat and her favorite time is ANY TIME someone is in the kitchen! <br/>Sienna is special. She doesnt realize whats happening in her world. She takes her meds like champ because she LOVES food! She can walk on a leash but prefers to do her business in the fenced yard. She does her best to make it outside but she will have accidents in the house. She has some very stylish belly bands and is good about wearing them.<br/>Sienna is fine with people and other animals. Due to her innocent nature, she doesnt understand not approaching an aggressive dog so a home with pleasant dogs is must. <br/>Sienna is adorable. Shes wonderful for the groomer and shes curious and gentle with everyone she meets. If youre special enough for her, please fill out an application to be considered. Her adoption fee is $400.
