SHYLEEN's Story

Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, sounds, suddem movements, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded. OTHER PETS: Shyleen is more comfortable with dogs than with most humans, and would benefit from having a well socialized, tolerant dog to help her learn how to navigate the world by providing a good example. Shyleen should meet any dog she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone committed to building and maintaining trust with Shyleen through positive reinforcement and slow relationsip-building would be her best adopter. [First Dog] KIDS: Shyleen would do best in an adults only home with humans who will be able to respect that she needs time to decompress before she can begin bonding with her new family. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Once Shyleen feels safe and settled in her new home her true energy level will show, she is a nervous and spunky fun pup who will need a combination of regular exercise combined with mental enrichmet to ensure that both her brains and her muscles are kept active and engaged and her needs are met. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Shyleen bond with her new owner, and build self confidence. Taking the time to build trust is crucial for all dogs, and will develop via teaching new skills and fun tricks, enjoying quiet time together, lots of praise and reinforcement, and remembering to let Shyleen set the pace of the interactions will set everyone up for success.
