Shorty's Story
My name is Shorty and I am from Texas! What's that you say? Everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas? Well, I may be a stumpy little 30 lb gal but I pack a lot of personality, and I surely act big if I get nervous! When I arrived I was not so sure about people as most of my time had been spent with other dogs. However, my Texas foster had a sweet little girl, so when I arrived in Wisconsin, I knew immediately I would make friends with the girls in my Wisconsin home. It took a few days, but now I like to shadow my foster mom around too. It has taken the longest to get comfortable with dad, but I do let him feed me and I let him sleep in the big bed with me too. I just also like to grumble at him sometimes so he doesn't think he's getting away with anything.

I've been doing awesome with the foster dogs in my house which range in size and personality quite a bit. I particularly like big dogs or any dogs that want to go play outside. My favorite trick is to bite the air in front of them to try to get them to play or chase me. But we chill in the sun a lot too. I can be a snuggle bunny when I want too. Especially at night when I am sleepy. I have been a good girl who goes potty outdoors and knows toys from non-toys and I don't currently need to be crated ever. I do like to have company of people or dogs, even when I am nervous and getting to know them better, so my ideal family is home frequently. I am fairly quiet most of the time unless everyone is barking! I do growl and sound scary when I am afraid, which can often be when I meet new people or dogs, but it's just because I am so small and vulnerable. We have not had a lot of visitors here but grandma and grandpa have been very nice and I don't get nervous around them since we've met before. I do like to hide under my foster mom at the vet, though I generally come out if treats are involved.

My foster family has a fenced yard, and that is a good situation for me as I love to run. I was recently spayed so I have not gotten to take walks much and do need work getting comfortable on the leash. I did initially sneak out the door once and had to be grabbed, so that is something my new family would been to be aware of. I do tend to quietly follow people to the door, though I have not been trying to dart out or dig under the fence or anything too crazy. Despite my size, I can still leap up on the bed or couch if that's where I want to be. I have not been thrilled with ear cleaning but I previously had infections so regular maintenance is important. I am TERRIFIED in the bath and foster mom tries to make that a quick process. I am currently up to date on vaccines and in good health, so taking over my care should be pretty easy for my new family. I am very good at looking pathetic and making people feel sorry for me, which is definitely a basset trait! Oh, plus I like food! And chewing on horns and antlers.

I guess that is kind of the basics, but reach out if you have questions! You can find the adoption application under the Adoption heading on our website www.bassetbuddiesrescue.org where you can also find other helpful information on what to expect out of the process. I hope to meet you soon! -Shorty
