Shito's Story

This St. Bernard mix defies both odds and expectations. To meet Shito you would not believe he spent the first year of his life living in a small cage filled with his own feces. When his "owner" was charged with animal cruelty he graduated to being tied on a chain in the desert heat. Concerned neighbors came to the rescue of him, his three siblings and two other dogs when the "owner" was arrested and sentenced to time in jail. Unfortunately, that "freedom" meant cutting them loose to fend for themselves unwilling to be touched by people. When we got the call we knew we had to help and after a grueling 10 days were able to safely secure them all.

Shito's start was full of fear but his desire to trust and be loved was intense for a dog who had clearly had a rough beginning. Once safe, his confidence, eagerness to please, absolute desire for affection and food drive blossomed and is a joy to experience. He LOVES to be touched. Brushing is his absolute happy place. He'll meet you with a tail wag, loves to give sweet kisses and will make you smile. He is a gentle giant but due to his size and young age is still learning feet stay on the ground but is a dream on the leash and sits quick for treats. He has rarely met a person he didn't love, however, is afraid of little feet so older children only please. Due to a life fighting to survive he can be around dogs safely but not in the same home or shared space so needs to be your one and only.

He may have had a horrible beginning but he is ready for you to help write his amazing future. Apply and come meet him today. You won't regret it.
