Sherman (In Foster)

Sherman is one of the 13 Ridglan Farms beagles that we have the privilege of giving a new start to their journey. He is around 2 years old. Finding appropriate placement for these souls is our number one priority and due to their difficult beginning, we are seeking special placements for each of them. Its hard to describe the fear they experience from only spending time in cages and not given the freedom and enjoyment of the simple things that would be normal to any dog. What they have experienced makes them an extreme flight risk, and if they were to get lost, finding them will be nearly impossible. Everything is scary, every sound is new, every smell is intriguing, every experience presents an opportunity to build their confidence and help them form a new view on life. Here is what we know will help them and what we will require for foster or adoption. <br/><br/>A securely fenced in yard<br/>No small children, maturely behaved children over 10yrs old will be considered.<br/>A confident, dog friendly dog will help them tremendously and would be ideal<br/>A patient and experienced dog owner that will not rush the process. This will not be a quick process.<br/><br/>What this will look like in your home:<br/>Many potty accidents for many months should be expected<br/>You may need to create an indoor enclosure in your home to start them off, potentially for a very long time as well. <br/>Lack of affection, as they learn that human touch is safe and enjoyable<br/><br/>What is the reward:<br/><br/>Giving a sweet soul a new chance at the joys of being a dog<br/>Watching them experience and ENJOY things for the very first time<br/>Earning the love and trust from them.<br/><br/>Sherman has shown us that he is quite the character. He was originally very resistant to touch but now he is a super friendly boy to the people he sees the most. He'll boop you in the arm to get attention, he gives kisses now, and he'll rub all over your back like he's a cat. He loves to play with a ball (and rip it apart if he can), and he is a pro about walking in and out of the fenced in yard on leash. He doesn't have many accidents in his kennel anymore as he has learned the routine here at the shelter. He has recently moved into a foster home where he lives with another small dog and a few cats as well.
