Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.
• HOUSEBROKEN? NOT 100% YET. As a dog rescued off the street and transitioning from living on indoor tile/ outdoor dirt surfaces in Mexico, they'll need time and patience to adjust to a new environment, but most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training.

🐾 Meet Sheina 🐾

A month or two ago, Sheina was a ghost dog—darting between houses in a busy neighborhood, so terrified she'd run straight into traffic without looking. Cars would screech to a halt. Drivers would honk. And this tiny Chihuahua mix would freeze in the middle of the road, shaking, before bolting to the next hiding spot. She was surviving on pure fear, never staying anywhere long enough to be caught, never trusting anyone enough to stop running.

When someone finally coaxed her inside, she was a trembling mess. Every sound made her flinch. Every movement sent her scrambling. This was a dog who'd learned that the world was dangerous, and the only way to survive was to stay invisible.

But here's the surprising thing about Sheina: it only took about a week for her true personality to emerge. Once she realized she was safe—that the door wasn't opening to kick her back out, that food would appear regularly, that the hand reaching for her was gentle—she transformed completely.

"I couldn't believe it was the same dog," her foster says. "Suddenly she was social, affectionate, following me everywhere. It's like she'd been waiting her whole life to finally relax."

Sheina is a tiny firecracker of personality packed into eight pounds. She loves everyone—dogs, cats, kids, strangers who come to visit. She'll greet them all with her tail wagging, ready to make friends. She's playful and energetic, obsessed with her collection of small plush toys (she has a particular fondness for a little squeaky burger that she carries around like a prized possession), but she's just as happy being a lapdog.

Actually, calling her a lapdog isn't quite accurate. Sheina wants to be an everywhere-dog. On the couch? She's climbing up. On the bed? She's burrowing under the covers. Working at your desk? She wants to be on your lap. Standing in the kitchen? She's at your feet, looking up hopefully, ready to be scooped up and carried around. She's figured out that being small has its advantages, and she's going to use every one of them to maximize her proximity to you.

"She's so attached," her foster laughs. "Wherever I go, she's right there. And if I'm giving attention to another dog, she gets a little jealous—nothing aggressive, just pushes her way in like 'Excuse me, I was here first.'"

She still has some anxieties lingering from her street days—certain things can make her nervous—but she's working through them, getting braver every day. What she needs is patience and reassurance that she's safe, that no one's going to make her go back to that scared, traffic-dodging life.

Sheina would thrive in a home where she can be someone's devoted companion. She'd probably do well with other pets (though she'll definitely want to be the favorite), and she's wonderful with children who understand how to be gentle with small dogs. What she really wants is someone who'll let her be close—who doesn't mind a little shadow following them from room to room, who thinks it's endearing when she insists on being held, who'll make space for her on the couch and in their heart.

Are you ready for a pocket-sized best friend who'll choose you every single time, who'll fill your life with equal parts playful energy and devoted cuddles, who just wants to be loved as fiercely as she loves?

*************************

📝 Ready to apply?
