Shayna is estimated to be 1.5 years old and is 46 lbs.

My name is Shayna which actually means “beautiful” in a few languages. My Foster family thinks it fits both my insides and my outsides. I love everyone, young, old, and everyone in between. Overall, I’m a happy go lucky spirit and very upbeat and cheerful. You can see my constant cheerfulness as my tail virtually never stops wagging.

I’m a fairly young dog, probably around 1 years old, so I am still learning about this big ole world. I’m curious about everything and try and stick my nose in everywhere, but how else would I explore? I love to follow my family around and insert myself into everything they’re doing, it’s part of the fun of being with a family. I am crate trained and currently get crated when everyone goes out and when they go to sleep. If I’m in my crate and people are doing stuff around me, I’ll try and verbally explain that “Cuteness like me shouldn’t be locked up when everyone else gets have a ball.”

I felt so honored when YLDR and my foster family chose me to get elite professional training. They said I was such a jewel in the rough, that the training would really help me find my perfect fur-ever home. The good news for my fur-ever family is that the training I got from the professional follows me to your home. Yes, you heard that right, you get me, an already awesome girl, AND my professional trainer, to make sure you learn how to support me in my greatness. So far I’ve learned “sit”, “come”, “heel”, “wait”, “off”, “no” and “place”. I also learned proper etiquette for walking on a leash, so I don’t pull your arm out of its socket, whatever that means! I will stay in my “sit” or “place” until you tell me to “go free”. I’m still learning to obey all these commands but I’m really smart so with the right human/s partnering with me, I know I’ll get mastery. I do still have a tendency to jump up in excitement when mommy comes home every evening, but I’m working on showing my affection in a less energetic manner. I’m really hoping that my fur-ever humans are as willing to partner with me as my foster humans have been. You see, I LOVE to please my people and so getting consistent, real-time, feedback really helps!

I am looking for a family that will love me and allow me to love them right back. I’ll probably do best with children who are a bit older, say 12 or up as they make less startling moves and will probably be more patient with me as I get the hang of a new environment and all its stimulations. I also don’t want to knock little humans over by accident when I follow them around so enthusiastically. So far, I’ve gotten along fine with cats too.

I’m hoping for a family who will laugh a lot (especially with me), let me be around them most of the time, include me in their activities when possible, and otherwise let me show my endless love for them. I don’t need to be active all the time but I’m still young and do need time to get out my “Zoomies”. If someone will help me run around for 15-20 minutes three times a day or so, that seems to be enough. Having a fenced in yard would be great for this! When I come in from those times, I often just “sploot” (spread eagle) to get my tummy cool on the kitchen floor. My imitation of a bearskin rug makes everyone laugh! I’m not too big on the “Fetch” thing, if you want it back, don’t throw it away. My canine foster brother taught me how to play “tug” with my 2-legged fosters. I also love puzzle toys and chew toys. I don’t really chew on anything I’m not supposed to as long as I’m entertained with something else.

My kisses are usually very “princess-like” and gentle. I love bestowing them on hands, feet, arms, wrists, and faces, but if you let me kiss your ears, the “Princess” goes out the window and I get enthusiastic and even a bit sloppy. My foster dad spends lots of time on the phone so I know that after he’s been on calls for a few hours in a row, I need to go put my paws on his lap, kiss his hands, and show him that he needs a quick break. I also show my love and excitement when foster mom comes in from work, and my 2-legged brothers come home from school. That’s when I bark and wag my entire butt so fast it looks like it’s going to fall off!

Right now I’m good for about 20 minutes of cuddling and then I start getting the “wigglies,” but I’m getting to appreciate it more and more every day. I sometimes use my mouth in a gentle way to request attention but I’m learning that my kisses and head nudges are way more successful in getting what I want. After my time in the shelter, I can get defensive around my food and water but I’m not aggressive. I’m not scared during thunderstorms, or fireworks. I’m also good on car rides and tend to just lay down and chill out.

Do I sound like the part of your family that you’ve been missing?

Why is Shayna a Foster-To-Adopt? To keep her out of a boarding situation, we need a committed foster family for this sweet girl while she looks for her forever home. As a Foster-To-Adopt parent, you would be responsible for giving Shayna a loving and safe environment. All medical needs are handled by our rescue group until adoption is finalized so the benefit of a situation like this is taking the time needed to make sure Shayna is the right fit without feeling pressured by a timeline.

For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.youluckydogrescue.org and read our Adoption FAQ's and Before You Adopt documents. You can complete an online adoption application from our website. You can also email info@youluckydogrescue.org for additional details that are not included in this biography.

PRIVATE MEET & GREETS: Submitting an adoption application is required before a private meet & greet will be scheduled. We will complete a pre-screening first to make sure that the dog you are interested in is a good fit for you. That way, we don't unnecessarily waste your time or the foster's time.

Our adoption fee is $300 and includes all age appropriate vaccines, spay or neuter and microchipping. All of our rescue dogs are heart worm tested annually beginning at 9 months of age, and they are kept on monthly heart worm and flea preventatives.

The breed and age included in this listing is based upon the opinion of a vet that has examined the dog. We cannot confirm the age of the dog unless the dog was born in the care of the rescue.

We are located in the metro Atlanta area. We currently do not allow out of state adoptions as a home check is required as part of the adoption process.
