Shasta's Story

Shasta came to us from SWAG, an amazing rural rescue, with a lump on her head and hope in her heart.
The lump turned out to be an old cyst. It will be drained when she's spayed.
The hope, however, appears to be permanent.
Shasta is 8 years old. She's endured the worst from humans - pain, hunger, loneliness - and somehow came out the other side still convinced that people are basically wonderful. She adores humans. Adores. A soft blanket? You'd think she won the lottery. A pat on the head? You are now her favorite person on Earth. Food? She looks at you like you personally invented kindness.
It's honestly humbling. This sweet dog still believes in us. And in a quiet way, she makes you believe in yourself too - in your capacity for goodness, gentleness, and showing up for someone who's been let down before.
Shasta is heartworm positive, but Animal Aid Society covers all treatment costs, even after adoption. We'll also cover her spay and cyst removal.
You just bring the love.
And fair warning - you are going to get it back in absurd, unconditional quantities.
Shasta is ready for her soft landing. She's waited long enough. She'd love to make you a believer at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you may submit your adoption application. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer. PLEASE NOTE: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog. Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00. Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00. We prefer that adopters be located within 40 miles of the shelter to facilitate post adoption follow up.
