Sharon's Story

Sharon was just a 3 month old puppy when she was found skinny and with a plastic bag tied over her head in California. A rescuer took Sharon in, got her to a good weight and fostered her for 3 months to get her back to health and socialize her.

- Approximately 7 months old and 42 pounds. We think Sharon will be under 50 pounds full grown.

- Possibly a German Shepherd mix. She has amazing ears with one that stands and one that flops.

- Has been raised with other dogs, cats, kids and even chickens and pigs. Sharon loves other dog friends, is neutral with cats and loves gentle kids. We would love to find Sharon a home with another dog friend to play with!

- Shy when meeting new people but blossoms and soon shows affection. Sharon will need an understanding person willing to give her just a day to warm up in their home. She defaults to women typically and takes just a little more time to warm up to men. With a steady supply of treats though, she now really enjoys her foster dad in the home she is staying. After the first night, she would willingly nap next to her new foster dad.

- Nice medium energy level. She loves to play with her toys, enjoy a chew bone, explore outside and then can relax and be mellow in the home. She has a very gentle nature about her.

- Has done excellent with her potty habits

- Crate trained and her crate is her safe place that she will go to rest

BEHAVIOR: Sharon does have leash reactivity - she will sometimes bark at other dogs and people in passing and when first meeting them. She is not aggressive and really enjoys play dates with other friendly dogs. The reactivity stems from fear and will need an adopter willing to train with Sharon on this to positively counter condition her to seeing people and dogs that make her feel fearful. She could also be a happy homebody dog if you have a fenced yard. Sharon would do best in a more suburban or rural setting where there isn't a ton of foot traffic constantly walking by. Her adoption fee has been reduced to help her find a home and with the hope her future family will invest in continued training.

FROM HER FOSTER FAMILY:
"Sharon is one of the sweetest dogs we've met. Now that she's been with us about a week, she's really starting to open up and be more trusting and playful. She is potty trained, crate trained, and we are working on leash training. She loves doing stuff but also likes to just chill with us and she sleeps through the night. She does not resource guard, and is easy to redirect when needed. She has shown incredible resilience transitioning to being fostered on Mt Hood after a life in California- including weathering the recent super storm and 4 day power outage with us here in Zigzag."

Sharon is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, dewormed and current on her flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Portland, Milwaukie or Tualatin.

$150 adoption fee

Fostered in ZigZag, Oregon but can be driven down off the mountain to meet you closer.

APPLY TO ADOPT SHARON ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG
