Shale's Story

Meet Shale, a gorgeous two-year-old Great Dane with a uniquely stunning chocolate merle coat that’s sure to turn heads! This beautiful girl is ready for a fresh start with Big Hearts for Big Breeds, where we’re getting to know her personality and helping her build the skills she needs to thrive in her forever home.

Shale is good with cats and kids, making her a promising addition to a family looking for a giant-sized companion. When it comes to other dogs, we’re still figuring out what works best for her. Shale has struggled with some dog relationships in the past, including food-related tension and conflict with a female dog in the home. We also understand she may have experienced being picked on by other dogs previously. It’s possible that female-dog dynamics played a role, but we’re taking the time to learn more rather than make assumptions. Shale may ultimately be happiest as the only dog in the home, and we’ll continue working to understand what setting will help her feel safe and successful.

Like many dogs who are still learning, Shale could use some guidance with leash manners, car rides, and reinforcing her potty-training routine. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, we’re hopeful she can continue building confidence and good habits as she settles into rescue life. Shale will also be spayed before adoption.

With her extraordinary coloring and a whole lot of potential, Shale deserves a family willing to see beyond the learning curve and help her shine. If you have room in your heart for a beautiful Great Dane and are ready to help her continue growing, Shale may be your girl!
