Shaggy's Story

Meet Shaggy!

This handsome honey-colored Shih Tzu has quite the comeback story. When Shaggy arrived at the shelter, years of neglect had left his coat so severely matted that no one could even tell what breed—or what sex—he was. He had to be sedated for a full shave-down and lost an incredible 2 pounds of matted fur in the process.

Despite everything he’s been through, Shaggy is a happy boy with a heart full of love. He adores his people and is ready to make up for lost time enjoying all the affection he missed.

Shaggy recently had a dental and lost a few teeth, but he’s feeling much better now. He gets along with other dogs, though he’d truly love being your one and only. He appears to be housebroken, knows how to use a dog door, and enjoys spending time outside. Seeing a leash makes him downright giddy, so a family that enjoys walks would make his day!

One thing to know about Shaggy: he growls when he communicates. It’s simply how he talks and isn’t a sign of aggression.

After years of being overlooked, Shaggy is ready for a family who will cherish him and give him the love he has always deserved. Could that be you?

Shaggy has been neutered, is current on vaccines, has tested negative for heartworm and is microchipped.

If you are interested in adopting Shaggy, please complete an adoption application on our website (uaaf.org/adopt).
