Meet Shady

Shady is about 2 years old now. In August of 2019, he was hit by a car on a reservation in Manitoba and suffered spinal trauma and a fractured pelvis.. luckily after x-rays and an MRI he didn't need surgery, but needed strict crate rest followed by rehab therapy.

Shady was paralyzed and could not walk, but he has made a miraculous recovery and is now walking, running, playing and is house trained!

Shady has fully recovered from his injuries and has been having so much fun on our 7 acre property.

He has limited range of motion in his hips, so he tends to bunny hop. This doesn't cause him any pain, it's just the way he moves now.

The one thing he cannot do is to Go Down a lot of Stairs. His brain isn't getting the right signals to his hind legs about that, and may never. But we do make him go down the 4 stairs to the outside. He can go up the stairs with ease.

With that being said, Shady's home should not have lots of stairs and he should never have free access to stairs.

His ideal set up would be a one level detached home or a home with no access to stairs preferably on a fully fenced acreage, with access to indoors too. He loves hanging out with his humans while watching tv or sitting on the deck. He's very attached to his people

Shady loves having lots of space to run and frolick. Shady also LOVES water! Swimming is good for him but he should never be off leash swimming in case his legs get tired and he starts to sink.

If you're gone long hours, a doggie door to a secure property would be perfectly ideal for the Shade man.

Shady is great with other dogs, but he is a RUDE player and this tends to annoy other dogs. He does tend to get over excited, and doesn't fully understand the "quit" signals from other dogs, and this needs to be monitored and controlled by his human to prevent altercations. He would prefer to live with female dogs over make dogs but if the male dogs is calm, not excitable and non reactive then Shady would make friends.

He has met some small dogs but gets over excited and his big feet, over excitable and clumsy nature could injure a small dog, so a home without small dogs would be best.. he is not good with cats

He still has lots to learn as he wasn't taught much before his injury and since then has been confined for recovery. Especially his recall and stay.

Shady needs a confident leader who will focus on boundaries and routine. He should not live with any children as he is too excitable and can unintentionally knock them over. He should have an adult only home as he needs consistent routine and boundaries.

He has a high prey drive for small animals including cats, squirrels, birds and other interesting critters.

Shady should not live in highly populated and high traffic areas. He tends to get overstimulated and over excited, making it hard for him to focus on his human. When he gets over stimulated he tends to try to nip at passers-by when he is on leash so he will need to be muzzled on leash walks. Finding Shady a lovely acreage setting would be so ideal. He loves his current foster home on 7 fully fenced acres.

His adoption fee is $395. He is neutered, microchipped, tattooed, dewormed, flea treated and vaccinated..
