Shadow's Story

Shadow is a sleek, shiny black girl of about 1 year old, with a splash of white on her chest and matching white toes—as if she got dressed up just to meet you. One look at that happy face and swinging tongue tells you exactly what kind of dog she is: sweet, playful, and thrilled to be wherever her people are. Shadow came to us as a stray, so her history is a mystery—but her personality is not. She greets everyone like a long-lost friend, stands right up to say hello, and melts into attention the moment you offer it. She has that joyful young-dog energy and is ready for play sessions, walks, and all the fun a family can share, with plenty of snuggles left over when the day winds down. Shadow seems to be house-trained and is good with dogs and children, making her a wonderful candidate for many kinds of families. She has not yet been tested with cats. Shadow is not yet spayed or vaccinated, and we will work with her adopter to schedule both as part of the adoption process. At about a year old, she is the perfect blend: puppy joy without all the puppy chaos, and a whole lifetime of best friendship ahead. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
