Shadow's Story

Are you a fan of the underdog?

Shadow is in need of that special person who understands that life's hard knocks are just a little harder for some than others....
We are helping a WA State veterinarian office to try and find Shadow's new person so that he can have a new chance at life. Shadow is estimated to be 8-9 years old.

As a young boy, his first home was on a farm with a woman where he lived happily and was referred to as her support dog; they were inseparable. Shadow kept the rats away from the farm and enjoyed being a ranch-hand. When his person passed away, Shadow was bounced around to numerous homes, never really landing that special one. Most recently, he was surrendered to the vet office after a client could no longer keep him. He recently had a surgery for urethral obstruction, which resulted in a PU surgery; he will need to be on a urinary support food indefinitely.

Now, here's why Shadow needs that special person...he is described as having a bold personality, he likes to be the boss, is very protective of his person, and guards his high-priority treasures such as bones or food. He will give warnings if there is something he doesn't like that you are doing--and may bite if his warnings are not respected; however, he responds to corrections made by "his person." For example, he does not like to be picked up--but he will let his chosen person pick him up. With all of that said--Shadow will LOVE his person with such unconditional love that there will be no question of his loyalty. (I've personally had one of these "special little boys" and can't begin to tell you the joy and laughs he brought me!)

He HAS lived with other dogs and cats before--but he would do best as an only pet. He wants that special connection with one person, it is just who Shadow is. We accept him for that, and we just want to find his new person who accepts that!

He is currently staying at the vet office where he does appear to have chosen one person there that he loves...but they have noticed he's been warming up to others, too. He has a loud bark and shares that eagerly from the kennel when he hears his person's voice. Shadow would love a home with a yard, as he does enjoy some moderate activity. A home without kids is best.

Shadow weighs 19 pounds, is neutered, and is a Dachshund mix (possibly with Beagle).

REMEMBER: To the world, you may be one person--but to one dog, you may be the world!
