Shadow's Story
Shadow is exactly what his name suggests - once you're his person, he'll be by your side every step of the way. As a 1 year old German shepherd this handsome, energetic boy is full of personality, love, and a little mischief. He's looking for an experienced dog owner who's ready to channel all that energy into something great.

Shadow is smart and picks up on routines and commands fast. He's already mastered sit and lay down, and is 99% house trained. We're still working on “stay” and “come” but his FOMO will generally keep him by your side. He's obsessed with chase, walks, keep-away, and anything involving water. Yak cheese, Kongs, salmon, hot dog popsicles, and a good stick are his love languages. He's wonderful at the vet, friendly with strangers, and gets compliments everywhere he goes. He knows he's pretty. He's good in the car (but needs a harness to not be a wiggly worm trying to climb on you), crate trained, and thrilled to join on any adventure. He also has a hilarious cat-like side from climbing on things, crouching to sneak up on you, and clearly having no idea how big he is. 75 lbs by the way, and still growing, the vet says.

Shadow is a high-energy dog with a big personality, and he needs someone who will be a confident, consistent leader. Left to his own devices, Shadow will happily assume that role himself. He is a mouthy boy: he bites during play and can be persistent when told no, sometimes responding with barking. This is his biggest challenge right now and is improving, but will require dedicated training. He also shows reactivity toward other dogs on leash (tail wagging but vocal and jumpy), so a dog-savvy home is a must. Due to his size and enthusiasm, he's best suited for a home without small children or elderly individuals.

Shadow will thrive with an active adopter who has experience handling strong-willed dogs, a plan for continued training, and ideally access to a pool or a yard. A home without other dogs (or one with a very confident, dog-savvy pup who can correct & teach Shadow) would suit him best until his reactivity can be properly assessed. In return, you'll get the most loyal, funny, adventurous shadow you never knew you needed.
