Serena's Story
Some dogs come to the Haven for a little while. Serena has grown up here.

She was only about 13 weeks old when she was found in a known dog-dumping area, skin and bones. When we pulled up, Serena was standing near the body of another dog that had been hit.

That was her introduction to the world.

Thankfully, it wasn't the rest of her story.

Serena grew from that skinny little puppy into this beautiful, ridiculously smart Dutch Shepherd mix — and somehow, she's still waiting for the part where she gets a family of her own.

She's one of those dogs who can switch from smart, observant girl to complete puppy in about two seconds. Give her a tennis ball and out come the adorable bunny hops. She loves toys, loves her marrow bones, loves to run and explore, and she's just as happy settling in for cuddles afterward.

She's still a little shy when she's out in public. Mostly she watches. Takes everything in. Figures out this big new world at her own pace.

With other dogs, Serena can be the more assertive player, so good introductions matter and an easygoing furfriend would likely suit her best.

She's still polishing her potty-training skills, but she's wonderfully chill in her run. She's smart as hell, and I really think some of that last piece is simply growing up in a shelter environment instead of ever having the consistency of her own home.

Serena could fit into a lot of different lives. Want a girl who can run, explore and eventually be your hiking buddy? She's game. Prefer hanging around the house and cuddling afterward? She's down for that too.

She came here at 13 weeks old.

She shouldn't have to grow up here.

It's time somebody finally sees Serena and says, that's my girl.

Meraki Animal Haven Society Owasso, Oklahoma

Please share Serena. Her family may simply not know she's waiting yet.
