Scruff's Story

Scruff is exactly what you would expect in a young Australian Cattle dog/Aussie mix. He comes from a rescue shelter in Oklahoma without much of a backstory, but vet estimates he's about a year and a half old. At just under 50 pounds, he will be the perfect adventure buddy.

He has spent the last few weeks accompanying his foster family running trails and mountain biking around Bellingham, WA., and while he is happy to run and explore the brush ahead and on the sides of the trail, he always circles back to make sure you're still nearby.

Scruff enjoys a friendly and gentle introduction to other canine companions and could play all day. He's especially delighted with smaller, spunky dogs. Stray cats usually don't stick around in his fosters yard too long as they often find themselves on top of the fence looking down at two perked ears and two beading eyes. We have no idea if he's ever lived with cats, but his overzealous curiosity could definitely lead to chasing if a cat runs!

He's shown to be friendly around all people and children, though he's still young so his play style may sometimes involve gentle teeth. He responds well to no and is learning that tricks and calm introductions get more treats. Scruff is very smart, food and toy motivated, handler focused, athletic and happy. He would be a great horseback riding or hiking partner, or a fun prospect for dog sports like agility or barn hunt.

And one more thing... good luck sitting alone on the couch ever again. He fancies himself to be a bit of a lap dog, though he is capable of entertaining himself if he can't guilt you into pets with his pretty puppy face.

Scruff is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. He is located in Bellingham, WA.

If you are interested in adopting Scruff, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks. We will be looking for forever homes who have a plan for training, exercise, and socialization to help Bella be her best in most situations.
